Josephine Kok(Cook)/John Luxen MI/IL
Josephine Cook(b. 1862, Overisel, MI) was the daughter of Hendrikus Kok (Cook) and Egbertje Koning. I found marriage records of a Josephine Cook and John Luxen in 1895 in Ottawa County, MI. John may have been a minister. The family may have moved to Lansing, IL in the early 1900's. If you have any information about them, I'd appreciate it if you would contact me. Thanks, Kay

Do you have any further information regarding Henry Cook? Do you know when he died or his parents names? I may have a connection here...

Dear Amy. I have information on three Henry Cooks. Unfortunately, I don't see a connection with your family. Here is the information anyway. Maybe you can find something I missed.
1. My gg grandfather, Hendrikus Kok
Hendrikus Kok b. 31-03-1837 Hellendoorn d.1921 Holland, MI m.29-03-1860 Overisel, MI to Egbertje (aka Emily) (de) Koning b. 20-03-1838 Beilen d. 08-04-1896 Holland, MI (Church records have the name spelled KOK, but burial records spell it COOK)
He was the son of Mannes Kok and Dine Kromhof.
Mannes Kok, farmer b.11-02-1811 Hellendoorn, Netherlands d.02-12-1881 Overisel, MI m. to Dine Kromhof b.23-02-1802 Rijssen d.01-12-1886 Overisel, MI dau of Hendrik Kromhof/Hendrine Logter. Mannes emigrated in 1851 to Overisel, MI with his wife and children.
2. Hendrikus also had a brother Hendrik, also the son of Mannes Kok and Dine Kromhof. This is the information I have on Hendrik.

3. Hendrikus had a sister Aaltje who married a Hendrik Kok who I am certain went by the name Henry Cook. They lived in Allegan County, too, but in Laketown Township.

Kay, The Henry Cook that I thought was a connection probably isn't, but there may be there is a connection further up. I know someone who has done extensive research on the Koks in the Netherlands, she may be able to help. Email me at DELEEUWGENEALOGY@AOL.COMThanks

Dear Joyce,
I have just come across an Alice Kok on the 1880 Census in Allegan County, Overisel Township. She was the daughter of Hendrik Kok and Henrietta (Hendrikje) Timmerman. She was three years old. She is also on the 1900 Census in the same family. Here she is 23 and it lists her birthdate as Nov 1876. Could this be your Alice? If so, e-mail me. I can trace this Kok family back many generations.

Hi Kay, My Alice Kok... Born: abt 1834/35 P: coast of Belgium/Netherlands “near Rhine River” Died: 1899 P: Michigan Married: before 1849? Jannis/John Kools B: 12 April 1829 P: Cadzand, Zeeland Netherlands D: 1909/ 1914 P: Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Co Michigan They had six children. The first born about 1855 in Holland Michigan, In 1860 & 1880 they are living in Kalamazoo MI.
Jannis/John came to No America in 1849 and is listed as a married man. Alice did not travel with his family, but a Kok was. On the same ship list is a widow, Janna de Kok, Born: Feb 14, 1774, residence Groede Zeeland, I feel Alice was related to the widow Janna.
Listed as original settlers of Allegan Ottawa Counties are these men.... ('A' is for Allegan Co and 'O' is for Ottawa Co, year came to North America) Kok,Alt,Overijsel,A,1852 Kok,Dirk,Zeeland,O,1848 Kok,Gerrit,Zeeland,O,1848 Kok,Harm,Holland,O,1847 Kok,Hendrik,Overijsel,A, Kok,Herman,Holland,O,1847 Kok,Hermanus,Overijsel,A,1852 Kok,M.,Overijsel,A,1848 Kok,Willem,Zeeland,O,1848 Notice three are from the province Zeeland and came before my Kools family. I just don't which one connects to my Alice Kok-Kools.
Jannis/John either knew Alice in Zeeland, Netherlands or met her in Michigan. Because the name Alice is common in the Kok family I feel my Alice connects somehow to the other Alices. (Later the name is in the Kools family, she must of been a nice woman to have nieces named after her.)
I have some other Alices in my misc. file.
Joyce
