Hi! I am Linda, daughter of the late Ross A. Koile of Crawford, Colorado. I would love to talk to any Koile family out there, especially anyone that knew my father.

I don't know your father, but the Koiles in Arizona are all related and come from a family of Koiles in Indiana. I married into the family so don't know a whole lot. Have you heard any stories, legends on how the name changed from Coyle to Koile? There's one floating around our area that a great-grand-person came over here and didn't want his name the same due to some run in with the law or something. I really think that the guys at Ellis Island decided that the spelling of Coyle was getting too common and decided to change it phonetically so it sounded the same just spelled different.

Dearest Dani! Thank you for your response!! The Koile name is a Dutch name and Koile actually came from the name, kale...yes...our ancestors were kale farmers. I have heard nothing of the Coyle spelling or anything of that. The main root of our Koile's are in Omaha, Nebraska and the Koile bro's were all railroaders, my daddy followed another drum beat and was a rancher, and was a wonderful man. I am near Steamboat Springs, Colorado and don't get 'home' much in Omaha to visit, however, we Koile's do have a web site, and keep in touch. Why not email me to compare other notes...there has to be a connection. Who is your husband, he is the Koile and I am just so anxious to hear what he knows!! My grandfather was the late Harold Koile, from Olewin, Iowa who died his untimely death upon falling off the scaffling at Hoover dam in Nevada, he was only 27 and left three children, my uncles...Garth, David and Ross-my father. Any connection? Our family has Irish, Scotch, Dutch, Cornwall England and French connections. What do you know?? A pleasure touching base with you! Warmly, Linda

I would love to e-mail you and find the web page for the Koile Family. I can be reached at hawkhavens@aol.com. Since my husband is the original Koile, I'm searching for him. His father is Paul Koile with brother Earl Koile in Austin, Sisters Norma and Billie (yes sister)Koile all from Indiana. I will try to get a tie-in name from there to see where the match comes from. I understand that there are only maybe fifty people with the name Koile (not including ex-wives) in the U.S. This shouldn't be too difficult to match. I am very interested in your history of the Koile name. Maybe my father-in-law was told a wild story. He was told he came from Irish/Scottish stock, that much matches your information. Write me and let me know where the website is to respond. Thanks, Dani

Hi there Dani! I am hoping to gather more 'Koile' info for you, but I would love to introduce you to my cousin Billy Koile who is a wealth of Koile information and may be able to help you find a connection of your family and ours! I am not sure how secure this site is, so if you would please email me: kevlinolsen@compuserve.com I would be so happy to introduce you to Bill who has been responding to my questions on the Koile family. I will then give you his email and see if we can make connections!! Warmly, Linda

I will gladly contact Kevin and learn more information. I also found out some neat stuff from my Father-In-Law who is the link for the Indiana group of Koile's. That would be fun to find out that there is a definite link to the families. More later, Dani

I too am a part of the Koile from Iowa. What I know is that there isn't a connection between the 2 Koile families William Koile in Vigo Co., Indiana is the branch for Earl Koile of Austin Texas and I think Ross A. would fit in there. You might want to contact Earl. A few years ago we were contacted by a person looking for a Ross Koile that served in Korean war or one of the WW. Can't remember now. But Earl didn't know him nor did we. Samuel T. Koile is from Delaware Co, IN and is the Iowa Koile's line. Samuel's lines are living in Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin Nebraska, Missouri and Wisconsin and one in Nova Scotia Canada. My dad said that Bryl Koile is buried in Minnesota and I have found some presently living in the Minneapolis area but don't know who they are or if they are connected to Bryl. Now for info I have found out about William Koile, he was born in Virginia and I think he was born about 1830, I'd have to check that, it might be earlier. He was in Ohio when a couple of his kids were born from a previous marriage than the one in Indiana. Earl had told me that the name he was told was Abraham and not William, but all the other info goes to William, so they family could either be mistaken (as there is an Abraham born to William) or that Abraham is William's father. I have been looking, but haven't found anything yet. I will check into the Coyle lead since you mentioned it. Marge

Hello! I was just looking through the postings and noticed that your father was Ross Koile from Colorado.
My grandfather was Ross Koile from Churubusco, Indiana. He passed away in 1987 in Missouri. I will show my mother your letter and see if she can forward any information, if you are still interested.
My mother's maiden name was Ruth Koile. Her married name is Ruth Stewart. We both live in Stanley, WI., however my mother grew up in Ashland, WI. She is 74 years old now and was the oldest daughter of Ross and Velma Koile. Velma Koile is buried in Iowa. (my grandmother).
The name is not real common, so when I saw your message, decided to try and get in on the action. I know that their must be a common denominator in all of this. I can dig deeper and would love to do so.
There was also a Byrl Koile, I believe a brother to Ross. He would have been my great uncle.
Take care now, Sincerely, Ruth Korn

Hi Linda: Very interesting to see your message with the name of Ross Koile on it again. It seems to be a real common first name. It was also my grandfather's name.
My grandfather spent most of his life towards the end in Churusbusco, Indiana. However he lived in many different places. He ended up being buried in Missouri due to needing medical attention towards the end by family who lived there.
My grandmother Velma is buried in Iowa. I know that she was from there. Her name was Velma Hind. My mother's maiden name was Ruth Koile - she has brothers Carlton and Bob. Also sisters.
I just happened to be surfing the net and got into ancestry.com. Was really surprised to see what happened when I punched in the Koile name. Have been very interested in doing some geneology work and thought I'd start here.
Hope this finds you and your family well - hope to hear from you, Very Sincerely, Ruth (Stewart) Korn
