Descendents of Joannes Kohel
and Related Families
( Auclair, Ferguson, Grube, Hörz and Panzer)

Over 350 years have passed since the first written record of a member of the Kohel family memorialized the beginning of our ancestry in the village of PrapořiÅ¡tě in the Domažlice-Klatovy Region of Böhmen (present-day Czech Republic). In addition, it has been over 150 years since our first ancestors traveled to America seeking the one thing not found in their homeland, land to hold title to and call their own.

This book places special emphasis on our earliest ancestors, and their genealogical records dating back to the early-17th Century. From our ancestors humble beginnings as serfs, working the land in servitude to their lord, to their settlement in America, this book references over 4,250 individuals, representing up to fourteen generations, on not only the Kohel family, but also several related families including, but not limited to, the families of: Auclair, Ferguson, Grube, Hörz and Panzer.

This beautiful hardcover book, with hand-sewn binding and marker ribbon, has 400 pages printed on acid-free, 70# coated paper with a matte finish. This high quality paper allows for the best possible photographic reproduction and lasting preservation. Over 110 photographs, maps, documents, charts and illustrations compliment our history along with several comprehensive Genealogy (Register) Reports. As a final compliment to this book, the colored end sheets are sections of historic maps that depict the villages of the earliest ancestors of the Kohel family.

Our Heritage

We keep forgetting all of those who lived before us.
We keep forgetting what our fathers have done for us.
We commit the sin of assuming that everything begins with us.

We drink from wells we did not find.
We eat the food from farmland we did not develop.
We enjoy freedoms which we have not earned.
We worship in churches which we did not build.
We live in communities that we did not establish.

This day, make us grateful for Our Heritage. Turn our minds to those who lived in another day, and under different circumstances, until we are aware of their faith and work.

Today we need to feel our oneness, not only with those of a recent generation who lived here, but those of every generation in every place, whose faith and works have enriched our lives.

We need to learn from them in order that our faith will be as vital, out commitment as sincere, our worship as alive, our fellowship as deep, as many of the devout and faithful who lived another time and place.
