Re: Kohel Genology - Nebraska
Hello Zoltan, I'll be in Plzen CZ on July 28 doing some research on the kohel's of that area. In my research I came across a Jacob Kohel that doesn't seem to link up to the Nebraska Kohel's or the Wisconsin Kohel's. Jacob Kohel 39 from Bavaria, ship name: Mississippi, left port: Falmouth and Havre, arrived Ellis Island NY April 20, 1867.

Re: Kohel Genology - Nebraska
Hello again Zoltan
I have returned from the Czech Republic and found that almost all ancestry records of the Kohels can be found in the State Archives in Plzen. I was not able to find Joseph Kohel who emigrated to the US in 1834, but I did find that my ancesters did NOT come from Novo Sedelske Hute, but originated from Kout na Sumave.

Re: Kohel Genology - Nebraska
Scott, It's been a time... I don't remember if I ever answered your question and I apologize for the delay. In the meantime my life took unexpected twists and turns as a result of which I moved from the south of Slovakia to Netherlands. I'm Hungarian (as were my ancestors 4 generations backwards). About the olders I have no info. On the level of rumours I've heard from my father's cousine that all the Kohels in the mentioned South-Slovakian region are descendants of a man who moved there fom a region in Central-Slovakia. The nearby town is being Nitra. As I learned there were 4 or 5 brothers and because the living was hard, they moved: 3 of them went to west (current Czech republic), 2 of them to south (current Slovakia and Hungary). This cousine of my father couldn't remember neither the name of the village they were originated from not the year when they left. It is still my plan to go to the birthplace of my father, which is now called Trstice in Slovak or Nadszeg in Hungarian and check out the birth register. This ancestor of mine came into this village and his descendants were living in or nearby the village for 4 or 5 generations. This 4th or 5th generation was my father who moved to the next village (8km from the mentioned one). That was the place I grew up.
