Re: The Koger Family of MS (African Amercian)
Hi Clement:
I sent you an e-mail, but no response. I figured I would try to post here again instead. I have Kogers in Colleton County. My paternal great great grandmother is Geneva Koger, who was married to Morgan Owens. They were parents to my great grandfather, Samuel Owens.
Does any of this sound familiar? I would love to hear about your Kogers from Colleton County.

Re: The Koger Family of MS (African Amercian)
i'm sorry it took me a while to get back with my informations. my mother-mother was louise koger bowman, her father was william (willie & bill) koger and her mother was hannah brown koger, some of her siblings were willie, cliff, charlie, peter, sam, katheryn, eliza. i heard of one more brother who left home and was never heard from again. there might be more and i will check on that as soon as possible. i asked my mother about an geneva koger and she said awhile back she ran in to a woman with the name geneva koger and that woman claim too be her first cousin. she said that her father name was charlie koger. anywheres i'm from charleston, s.c. and my koger family is from colleton county, s.c. in a place call hendersonville, s.c. it's about four miles outside of the town of walterboro, s.c. there is still alot of kogers in hendersonville, s.c. today. i will try to find time too visit and collect some more informations. tonight i'm calling my aunts whom now lives in virginia beach, virginia, they seems to have more interest and information. again ( i will get back to you as soon as possible )

Re: The Koger Family of MS (African Amercian)
Clement: So interesting! I cannot wait to hear more. I am afraid that I do not know much about my Koger relatives but what I shared. However, I do know that they are from/lived in Colleton County. Both my mom and dad are from Colleton County (Walterboro/Springtown/Smoaks), and grandparents too. I am not certain where or when Geneva Koger was born but my research finds her in Colleton County, married to my great great granddad, Morgan Owens. I am assuming that she was born some time around 1865, probably before because my great grandfather, Samuel Owens (her son) was born in 1877. I know that the majority of my Owens relatives are from Branchville, SC but they seemed to settle in Colleton. I am not certain why--though it seems that Branchville Baptist Church and Lovely Hill Baptist Church (in Colleton), both where I have tons of relatives, were sister churches and I noticed lots of travelling/visiting between the two church communities. I am going to assume that Geneva and Morgan met and married in Colleton, and not Branchville (in Orangeburg County). Hopefully, research will confirm more facts later.
I will look forward to hearing from you.
