My grandfather was a Kocemba(Wladyslaw), and immigrated to the US in 1909. His brother (Franisczek), and sister immigrated to the Us in 1912.
Their mother, Anna, remained in what was then AustriaFrom what I know, they had lived in New York (briefly), Minnesota, and finally settled in the Hamtramck Michigan area.
This may or may not be the link that you are looking for!

I am a Kocemba living in Montreal. There are several of us in Canada. My dad came after the second world war and my cousin came about 10 years ago.

They all live in the Kalisz , Opatowek, ( an hour from Poznan) area. Opatowek, from what I understand was on a trading route which Italians used to travel up to the Baltic Sea to seek out special brown stones which were used as jewelry and were prized.

There are a number of Kocemba's still living in the area and as well a number in the USA. I have a cousin who has been coming to visit us from Opatowek for the last four summers who says the cemetary has Kocemba headstones.

Hope this helps.

Until the internet, I thought there were very few Kocemba's in North America. Do you have any sense of when your anscestors came over? Do you know where they came from?

HI, I too have been trying to find some information about my grandfather's family history. It was a taboo to talk about it in our family. My grandfather name is Alfred Kocemba so if its any of you guys may be familiar with his name, all I know is he has a brother, I am not too sure if he had a sister or not. His father commited sucide.

Re: Your grandfather named Alfred Kocemba.

Have you an idea the year he arrived from Poland? Do you know his brother's name? Was it Alfred who committed suicide or was it Alfred's father?

I can ask questions of my family back in Poland once you clarify a few things.

Regards,

John Kocemba

Hello
My name is Richard and I was wondering if any of your family back in Poland knew of Walter Kocemba. He immigrated to the US when he was 15. He had 5 kids and lived in Ohio. Thank you for your time.

Need a little more information about Walter. When did he emigrate from Poland. Where did he live? What was his mother's name?

Any of this information will help in the search.
