My husbands grandparents came here from Poland.
In Poland it's pronounced Kuht-zay-uh. But here, me and mine pronounce it Koh-see-ya.

My grandmother has told me that the Koceja name was changed here in the United States. She said it had a "t" somewhere in the name. Now that I have read your posting Kuht-Zay-Uh makes sense. Any information on name change would be helpful. Thanks-Chris Koceja, Mesa Arizona

You may also be interested to know in Polish the c is pronounced ts (like at the end of "cuts"), the o like aw. It's my understanding the family is from an area of Poland near the Baltic Sea known as Kaszubia, the dialect of which is distinct from true Polish.

Surnames: Koceja
I knew a man from Poland years ago, who told me that Koceja is an old fashioned Polish name (not sure exactly what that meant). But he said the name is pronounced like i'm trying to spell it now "Coat-chey-yuh".
