I believe Jasper Newton Knowland was the son of Jacob or John F. Knowland of Charleston, Clark, Indiana. Jacob F. Knowland, as he appeared in 1850 (Alton, IL) and 1860 (Clark, IN) seems to have changed his name to John in 1870 (Bartholomew, IN). His occupation is tailor. In 1836 he enlisted in the military with another Knowland, David, in Charleston, IN. The record was mistranscribed as 'Iowa', but this was before Iowa became a state.

Jacob's daughter, Louisa A. Knowland, married Ira Clarkston Parker of Bartholomew County, Indiana. There are Parkers still in Columbus, IN who are very interested in learning more of the Jacob or John F. Knowland family. Pictures especially welcome!
