As far as I know Knoble was never spelled Knobel. There are allot of people who changed there name from Noble to Knoble due to a family fued. Our family has allways been Knoble.

For my line, the original spelling was KNOBEL. My great-great-great-great-grandfather, Johannes KNOBLE, came to America in 1776 as a Hessian drummer boy, was captured at the Battle of Trenton, and decided to stay. He originally spelled his name KNOBEL, which was the way his family spelled it in Germany (he was from the town of Ehlen, outside of Cassel).

Above named subject was my great, great grandfather. He and his wife emigrated from Switzerland in 1832 with Four children, one of whom died at sea,and built a home in Fredericksburg, Wayne County, Ohio. I would be pleased to hear from anyone related to him.

My great grandfather, Henry Jefferson Knobles and his wife, Elizabeth "Bessie" Ann Bradford, brought their four children to east Texas from State Line, Greene County, MS. around 1880. Henry Jefferson's parents were Margaret Coaker and Louis M. R. Knobles
born 1821 in Alabama. Louis M. R. parents were Mary and Lewis Knobles, born 1796 in South Carolina. The pertinent towns and counties in Alabama and North Carolina where the Knobles resided are unknown to me. I am seeking to learn when they came to America, from where, what ship, and any other information as well. Please email Eva at:lcevas@ktc.com.

My greatgrandfather, Thomas Franklin McCoy, married Anna Knoble in New Lebanon, OH on Nov.29, 1845. After living in Ohio and Iowa, they settled in Columbia City, In in 1865. Dr. McCoy died in 1874, but Anna lived on until May 20, 1903. According to her obituary, she was born in Bern, Switzerland in 1823 and migrated with her parents to Massilon, OH in 1832. Her father, Frederick Knoble, was naturalized in Wayne Co. OH in 1835. I believe the family moved to Mt. Eaton or New Lebanon Oh about this time. There were other Knobles living there at that time, some apparently working in the mining industry there. Frederick Knoble died on November 15, 1857 and is buried in Mt. Eaton. From your message on the Knoble Message board, I believe we are researching the same family. Please contact me by Email at mccoy975@clark.net. I live in Annapolis, MD but plan to visit the Mt. Eaton/ New Lebanon area this spring for further research.

Classification: Query
My mother was a Knobles whose father and grandparents came from State Line, Greene Co., Mississippi. In trying to research the family back through Alabama and Georgia, I am told that the spelling was originally Noble. Can you tell me anything about the family dispute that caused the spelling change? The oldest ancesters in State Line were Lewis Knobles and his wife Mary.
Their oldest son, Louis Martin Raspberry Knobles was born in Alabama - I don't know where. Any help appreciated.
