Trying to collect info on my gr-gr-grandfather, Green Knighton, b: 1823, Spartanburg Co or Union Co, SC.
Green may have originally used the name Knight.
Green Knighton married Mary (Polly) Harrison (Daughter of Tyree Harrison & Elizabeth O'Shields) approx. in 1842.

They left SC and moved to Talladega Co., Ala. They were on the 1860 Talladega Co, Ala. Census. (At that time, they were spelling their surname Nighten). They moved to Calhoun Co,(Oxford)Ala. shortly afterwards.

Green Knighton was in the Civil War (Ala. Volunteers) and was seriously wounded and sent home to die, approx. 1865.

Hoping I can get some leads on who Green's father & Mother was.

Hello Peggy. I hope you remember me. I'm doing research on my Knighton side of the family. Since last we email each other I find alot out on my side of the Knighton's. And I feel that we can help each other. Not only is Knighton in my line but O'Shield. This is some of the information I have today.

1. Thomas Knighton. Born in Spartanburg Co., SC.

He married Mary Summers. Born in Spartanburg Co., SC.
They had the following children:

2 i. Jim Oliver Knighton
ii. George Knighton;

He married Pearl Godfrey.

iii. Unknown Knighton;

2. Jim Oliver Knighton. Born 15 Mar 1855 in Spartanburg Co., SC. Died 29 Jan 1923 in Laurens, SC.

He married Amanda Osheilds, daughter of W. Pascal Osheilds & Caroline Mineava Hammond, 25 Feb 1872. Born 14 Nov 1854.
They had the following children:

3 i. William Thomas Knighton
ii. Nora Knighton; Born 20 Jun 1873 in SC. Died 22 Aug .

She married Tom Ownes.

iii. Fannie Knighton; Born 9 Mar 1877 in SC.

She married Giff Brasewell.

iv. Esany (Onie) Knighton; Born 22 Jun 1886 in SC.

She married Arthus Dill, 28 Feb 1906.

v. Feaney Knighton; Born 14 Jun 1887 in Sc. Died 1 Aug 1888.


3. William Thomas Knighton. Born 31 Jan 1881 in Spaganburg Co., SC. Died Oct 1965 in Columbia, SC. Buried in Greenlawn In Columbia, SC. Occupation Mill Worker.

He married Lucy Hughes, daughter of Ed Hughes & Unknown, 1900 in Spaganburg, SC. Born 1884. Died 1935 in Columbia, SC. Buried in State Cemerary In Columbia, SC . They were divorced 1911/1914.
They had the following children:

4 i. Bertha Knighton
ii. Ruth Knighton; Born 1900 in Spaganburg Co., SC. Died 1900 in Spaganburg Co., SC. Buried in Died At Birth.
iii. Paul Sam Knighton; Born 1900/1901 in Spaganburg Co., SC. Died 1900/1901 in Spaganburg Co., SC. Buried in Spaganburg Co., SC. Religion Lived A Yr.
iv. Edgar Knighton; Born 14 Sep 1904 in Spartanburg Co., SC. Died 29 Oct 1985 in Columbia, Richland Co., SC.

I am so happy for you ! I'm almost positive your Thomas Knighton is probably a nephew to my Green Knighton.
Or, is it possible they could have been BROTHERS?
You didn't give me a birthdate for your Thomas.

The first Knighton to show up on the Spartanburg Co, SC Census was a THOMAS KNIGHTON. That was on the 1830 Spart. SC Census, I believe. Then, a Zachariah Knighton showed up on the 1840 Spart. SC Census.
Maybe, Zachariah Knighton is a brother to your Thomas & my Green Knighton and the Thomas that was on the 1830 Census is their father.

The names you mentioned especially Wm. Thomas Knighton was a name my Green Knighton named his first born son.
I know there was a MILES OLIVER KNIGHTON living in Spartanburg SC Area, also. He's gotta be kin, also.

A Catherine Knighton b: 1818 married a Harrelson.
My Mary Polly Harrison Knighton had a brother, Edwin Harrison who also married a Harrelson (Elvira) in Spartanburg Co, SC.

My Green Knighton family left Spartanburg SC and moved to Talladega Co and later Calhoun Co, Alabama in the early 1850's. About three of Green's wife, Mary's brothers & sisters stayed in Spartanburg, but about 9 of Mary's brothers & sisters moved to Alabama near the same time.
So, hopefully, the families stayed in contact with one another, I really know so little about my Knightons beyond Green.

So, I want to say again, I'm so happy for you, Jonelle and if either one of us comes up with anything new to put our Knighton family together, let's share. I appreciate you sharing with me you "new" info.

Here is what I have on my Knighton line. Thomas Knighton born in Spartanburg Co., SC. He married Mary Summers, she was also from Spartanburg Co., SC. The two children I know of is James Oliver Knighton, born 15 Mar 1855 in Spartanburg Co., SC and died 29 Jan 1923 in Laurens, SC. James married Amanda O’Shield 25 Feb. 1872. George Knighton no inf on born or died, but he was married to Pearl Godfrey.
Than I have a unknown Male.
James Oliver Knighton and Amanda O’Shield Knighton children were.
Feaney and Sennie Knighton (twins) Born 14 June 1887
Feaney died 29 Jan. 1923 and Sennie died at born.
Esany (Onie) born 22 Jun 1886
Fannie Knighton born 9 Mar 1877
Nora Knighton born 20 Jun 1873 died 22 Aug
William Thomas Knighton 31 Jan 1881 Spaganburg Co., SC Oct 1965 Columbia, SC

Hopefully, I have found the right person. My Great Grandfather's name was Bogus Ceaststrunk. Weather Bogus is spelled right I do not know. His wife or weather they were married or not was a Julia Knighton. They had a son and a daughter by the names of Thomas Jefferson Ceaststrunk and his sisters was Lucy Ceaststrunk. Could this Julia Knighton who is on your page be their mother? Thank you.

My Julia Knighton married a John Thomas. I've never heard of Bogus Ceaststrunk. Was he from Alabama?
I suppose it's possible Julia could have remarried, but I haven't found any "Proof" of that yet.

Do you have a birthdate on the Julia Knighton you wrote about? Or where she & Mr. Ceaststrunk lived?

I very aware you know that this happen along time ago. I am in Okinawa, Japan and one of my Aunts who is in Texas have more infomation than I presently know. My Grand father was named Thomas Jefferson Ceaststrunk and he had a sister by the name of Lucy Ceaststrunk. There mother and father were suppose to have been Bogus Ceaststrunk and Julia Knighton. Although I am expecting some letters from Texas soon. I could not elaborated on the subject basically because at the moment I am to far away from home. My Grandfather lived in Kermit Texas. At the present time I do not know where his father Bogus Ceaststrunk and Julia Knighton lived. I am also awaiting the SS-5 cards on Thomas Jefferson Ceaststrunk. I believe that Julia Knighton will show up as his mother. The hardest problem that I faced is that the Ceaststrunk seem to have no existence. The only reason I know what I have been told is because of an Aunt who live in Texas who I am presently trying to drain for information. There are two of them left in-which I am building a family tree. Peggy, I have to living Aunts, however they are in the Unitied States. Your Julia Knighton would be the right time for my Great Grandfather. I will have better news when I get my information back from the social security adminstration. If I could be of any assistance please let me know. Thank you.

Green Knighton's daughter, Julia A. Knighton was born 1847 Spartanburg Co, SC and died May 19, 1897 Calhoun Co, Alabama. She married John Alexander Thomas Oct 21, 1864 Polk Co, GA.
I doubt very much if this is the same Julia Knighton that is your ancestor. Julia Knighton Thomas is buried in Edgemont Cemetery, Calhoun Co, Ala.

There was another group of Knighton's that went to Texas. That maybe the group that Gene Allred's wife is related to.
Gene has alot of info on the Net about that line.
I don't have the URL for his Website, but perhaps you could do a search on your computer and it should come up.

I am trying to find any information on Martha A Knighton b in Alabama 1860? married someone named Johnson who was born in Kentucky and was Cherokee Indian. They had 6 or 7 children Frances Lillie, June, George Henry, Stephen, Arthur, and Emma. Frances Lillie b 1886 in Brookwood Alabama was my great grandmother and married a coal miner named Tom Brown and I found Them on the 1910 cenus in Brookwood. I also know that Martha Knightons husband, the Cherokee was a practicing doctor or medicine man in Arkansas. I really need help and would appreciate any info. Thanks
