Ancestry.com ship records have the Knickelbein family listed as Kinckeltein and Kinckellein. The son listed as a Knickelbein, age 11, is really a Kuning. He was my greatgrandfathers brother. Their mother was married from 1850 to 1856, when her husband died. In 1857, she married into the Knickelbein family.

Sorry. The 11 year old son was a Knickelbein.
The ship records show my greatgrandfather as Aust Kinleing and Thos Kinleing instead of Kuning. Thos was listed as a female instead it should be August's brother, who was born in 1852

Amy,
I recently went to Chicago for some research and have copies of church record entries for the Kuhnings (kuning). I lost your email address but if you would send it to me I can get you copies of the church records.

Good day all
I have been battling to find anything about the Knickelbein name. Where they come from and what nationality. There is no record of the name Knickelbein before the year 1800.Can anyone help please.
