I am still looking for the Knack family that grew up or migrated to the Preston, Ontario area. My mother "Isabelle Knack" believes that both her uncle Stan and her uncle Bill resided in Preston, Waterloo areas. Anything will help

Re: Preston, Ontario KNACK
Hello - I just found your post. I, too, am looking for information on the Knack family from Preston, Ontario. I am interested in Rowena Knack, born in Preston, Ont. Her spouse (not sure if they were married) was Louis Albert De Lauche, my father. They had a son, Lewis, b. 29 Sep 1930, d. 22 Feb 1932. Baby Lewis is buried in an unmarked grave in Hamilton, Ont., where he died. Rowena & Louis were living in Hamilton, Ont. at least 1930-1932. I suspect they split up sometime after that. If I find more, I will let you know. If you have already found some information, I would appreciate hearing from you. Jean E. DeLauche

Re: Preston, Ontario KNACK
Hello, Kim - All I have for the Knack family connection with my father, Louis Albert De Lauche (DeLauche), b.1906 (supposedly in Trois Rivieres, Quebec - but probably born: Fullerton Township, Perth South, Ontario); d. 1999 Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA; is that Rowena Knack was the mother of their son, Lewis, b. 29 Sep 1930, Hamilton, Wentworth County, Ontario; d. 22 Feb 1932, Hamilton, Ontario of bronchial pneumonia. I don't know if Louis and Rowena were married. I also don't know if they had other children. On baby Lewis's death certificate, she is listed as "Mother's name: Rowena Knack." The address for my father is given on the death certificate as: 21 Bay St. North, Hamilton, Ontario. I don't know if Rowena lived there, too. Baby Lewis is buried in an unmarked grave in Hamilton. I assume Rowena and my father parted company some time after baby Lewis's death, as I know there were 3 other "significant" women in his life after that. He was married to two of them, as far as I know. There were 2 daughters with Rita Gill, probably in the 1930s, probably in Ontario, names unknown to me; one daughter with his wife Catherine, probably in the 1930s (that daughter passed away from some childhood illness before the marriage of my mother to my father), probably in Ontario, name unknown to me, Catherine and Louis divorced; and then 2 children (1 boy, 1 girl-me) with my mother. Whew! That Louis a rascal and a rogue, wasn't he?!? Obviously, Rowena went on to finer, better things after parting with Louis. :-) (Good for her!) If you wish, I can email you a JPEG attachment of the baby Lewis De Lauche birth certificate, with the info on Rowena. All the best-Jean E. DeLauche, Missouri, USA

Re: Preston, Ontario KNACK
Hi, Kim -
I don't have any more on Rowena Knack. I just have the info I found for her from the 1932 death certificate for her son Lewis (with my now late father, Louis A. De Lauche.)
I see there are a couple other Ancestry.com family trees including Rowena Ruth Knack.
We will have a while for the 1921 and then 1931 Canada census records to come out, too. Sigh . . .
Relatively yours - Jean E. DeLauche
