I am researching my Knabel Ancestors, I know they came from Germany before 1880. I don't know their migration route in America before they came to Iowa, but I did find my great great grandparents John and Annie Knabel in the Spring Rock Township, Clinton County, Iowa 1880 Census. It listed John 38 as a farmer, Annie 37 as keeping house, and their children Lizzie 15, William 13, John 10, Mary 8, Caroline 6, Charles 4, Edward 3, and my great grandmother Annie as 1. I am very interested in finding people to connect with and to research this family line with. I know some about the family, but to be honest not much, at least not as much as I would like to. Thanks for reading this and let me know if you are out there searching too. As the old saying goes "one good turn deserves another," so if I can help anyone further their research I would be happy to assist

My father has done some extensive research about the family lines through some friends in Germany. Even though I've only lightly searched on the subject, I'm still very interested in finding out more. Please feel free to email me, I'll share what information that my father has come up with.

My husband responded about my being a Knabel. Based on what I read in Karen Preston's original message, this is not the same Knabel family. My anchesters migrated to KY. There is John Urban from the mid 1800's in KY not Iowa. There may be a connection several generations back in Germany, but I have no information on that. We believe that the original last name spelling in Germany was Knaebel.

David: Do you have any Knabels who came to USA and settled in Memphis TN? Looking for info on Sophia Knable. She would have been born in the 1840's. That is all I know, looking for her birth date and parents names if you can help. Thanks.
