I am researching my Knabe ancesters. At 25 years of age, Henry Knabe came to America from Germany in 1855. A Maria Knabe, 20, was also on the ship. He went to East Troy, Wisconsin and married Christina Schade on October 9, 1856. She came to American with her parents, John & Anna Schade and her brother George and sister Johannes. In 1858 Henry and Christina moved to Johnson County, Kansas and had the following children: Christina Knabe - married Paul Rasmussen; Mary Knabe - married August Lefmann; George Knabe - married Matila Lefmann; Edward Knabe - married Emma Manz; Henry Knabe - married Lilliam Wanner. By 1869 Henry had died and Christina married Joseph Miller. They had the following children: Albert, John, Louis, Lizzie, Julia, and Emma. I am looking for information on Henry's family prior to his coming to America. Also, I am interested in locating any Schade family members. You can contact me at: bmccune@networksplus.net

Dear Karen: I just ran across your inquiry. Unfortunately, I can't help you with information, but I live in Gardner (Johnson County) and in the event you're not in Kansas, I would be happy to visit cemeteries, etc. My grandmother was Lydia (Knabe) Reitz, the oldest child of George and Matilda (Lefmann) Knabe and I would love to have any information you find about the Knabes and/or Lefmanns. The only thing my grandmother ever told her about her family's history was that her ancestors were from "Prussia." Thanks!, Lydia Barth

Lydia: Henry Knabe Jr was my grandfather. I would love to find out more about the Knabe family. It's been hard, I think, because the first Knabe that came to Kansas died so young. E-mail me at bmccune@ruraltel.net and I'll share with you what I know. Since Christina re-married, I wonder if she stayed in touch with the Knabe family and what about her own family? If we could get in touch with some of them, we might be able to further our search. Karen Knabe McCune
