Hello...I'm looking for assistance with my family tree. My grandmothers maiden name is Kmiecik and was from the Chicago area. There was a large family and I don't know where to start. I guess here on this message board is it.
Her name was Veronica Anna Kmiecik and she married Joseph John Jurek. She was born in 1906 and passed young in 1945.
My records indicate she was one of 9 kids in the Kmiecik home. I show the following brothers and sisters: (1) Joseph Kmiecik b 1908 d 1974 married Helen. (2) Stanley Kmiecik married Annette (3) John Kmiecik married Julia (4) Frank Kmiecik married Josephine(Zuba) (5) Mary Kmiecik married Henry Dziewior (or Javor..name may have been changed) (6) Elsie Kmiecik married Fred Dorsch, (7) Tessie Kmiecik married Joe Potempa, and (8) Rose Kmiecik who became Sister Adalarda. If anyone recognizes any of these names as connections to them, please contact me so we can share information. Thanks...Mike

Hi Mike, Tony Kmiecik here, son of Stanley Kmiecik and Annette Argasinski. Don't have much of the Kmiecik genealogy but may fill in some of the blanks.

Tony....great to hear from you. Contact me with your e-mail address and we can compare info away from the message board. My e-mail is Mpadge1@aol.com.
I did have your name on my tree so we are related. Basically your father (Stanley) and my grandmother (Veronica) were brother and sister, which would also make my mother (Joan) and you first cousins. Are you still in the Chicago area?
Talk to you soon.
Mike

Tony,
I recently obtained a photograph of the Kmiecik family. Your father is in the photo as a young boy. I believe the picture was taken around 1914, since Mary looks to be about 2 years old. It has Veronica as a young girl, probably 8 years old. I want to send you a copy to verify who is who. There was a question about the boys. I don't know all of the birth and death dates. Please contact me and we can exchange info.

This would be great. My wife is an avid genealogist and will help me on my family line. We haven't started due to the difficulty of obtaining records from behind the Iron Curtain. I understand that has since been resolved since the end of the Cold War. I have some sketchy data on the Kmieciks and a lot of stories though which I will be glad to share. I have included my cousin Justine Kmiecik (father Frank) and my sister Alice in this link to you and we are all anxious to get started. Justine (Tina) has a good recollection of our family history and can be of great assistance. We can share any photos that we have. We have a good scanner and are familiar with e-mailing scanned photos. Thanks, Tony Kmiecik

My Grandmother's name was Caroline Balis, I think. She married Andrew Kmiecik. They had seven children. Helen Kmiecik, Tessie Kmiecik, Sophie Kmiecik, Frank Kmiecik, Elizabeth Kmiecik, Carolina Kmiecik, Florence Kmiecik. Know any of them? I can give the names of the people they were married to if needed.

Mike,
I just stumbled on this post and realize you may have already discovered this information, or may have given up trying to find it. I believe John Kmiecik, married Julia, would be my grandfather. He had, I think, 3 sons and a daughter. John J. Kmiecik is my father. He had a brother Ron, and another brother (don't recall name), and a sister, Florence. The two brothers have passed but Florence and my father are still around and may be able to help with your tree. I am near certain this is the right tree because I recall attending Sister Adalarda's 50th anniversary of joining her religious order. You may email me at GWKmiecik@aol.com if you want further information.

Surnames: Kmiecik, Potempa
Mike,

Just playing around with my last name, Potempa, when I saw your message. I am one of the grandchildren of Tessie Kmiecik and Joseph Potempa. Tessie & Joseph had five boys (one additional died at birth). My dad, Raymond, was the oldest surviving. I have two siblings in the Chicago area. I am the youngest and live in Minneeota, but came from Chicago. I have given my two daughters hyphenated last names that begin with Potempa.
I have a paper copy of a picture of the Kmiecik family, too. Mary, the youngest, looked to be about two.I don't remember Tessie very well as I was only 4 when she died (Joseph died before I was conceived), but I do remember my Great Aunt Mary, the youngest of the family. She and Henry had two boys, but their names elude me. We used to visit Sr. Adelarda when I was very young.
