There are some BALTIMORE CUSTOMS RECORDS in microfilm from 1789 that may help answer this question.

My working theory right now is that William (Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Kleimenhagen) b 17 Dec 1758 at Waldeck, Ober-Waroldern, Germany, son of Johann Christoph Kleimenhagen and Anna Maria Gool, is the Climenhage/Climenhaga ancestor. His brother, Johann Heinrich Kleimenhagen b 22 Aug 1755 was a Hessian soldier who enlisted in 1776, deserted in NJ Apr 1777 and joined the Continental Army in May 1777.

There is also a third Johann Heinrich Kleimenhagen b 1763 at Ober-Waroldern, Germany, son of Johann Bernhard Kleimenhagen and Catharina Elizabeth Weisshaupt that is often listed as the Climenhag* ancestor. He is a first cousin of the two brothers but cannot be our ancestor as he died in Waldeck in 1823.

I'll post more about that here when I have a more complete picture.

Cheers
