Our Klaehn Family was headed by Walter William Edward Klaehn, primarily of Burlington Wisconsin. His sons were Marvin Klaehn and William Edward Klaehn. Marvin had three children, Donald, Beverly, and Polly Jo. William had six children, David, Margaret (myself), Marilyn and Carolyn (twins), Darlene, and Philip. Wives, Blanche and Rosemary survive. And all the male children carry on the name. Philip has a son, Patrick. Donald has a son, Derek.

I am tring to find any information on a Klaehn that moved to Wisconsin sometime in the late 1800's. He came over from Germany between the 1860's to 1880's to Harper, Texas. He & his brother John came over together to stay out of the army. They split ways thinking it would make it harder to find them.

I would think that might be my grandfathers father. I have his name somewhere. My grandfather was born around 1885 in the Slades Corners area of Wisconsin. By the pictures of him as a baby, an only child as far as our family knows, his parents were quite wealthy. My cousins have the pictures. Our side of the family got none of them after our grandparents passed away.
Can you share what you know about the origins of their family? How do you know about the attempts to avoid the army? Thank you. Marg

How interesting. I don't know right now if there is a connections. I was contacted by another email user from Texas who stated that he knew that his grandfather left Germany with a brother to excape going into the army. His name was John. My grandfathers name was Walter William Edward Klaehn and his father was August Klaehn. My grandfather used Martha for their daughter that died at birth. Not many people knew about her. But the name of Martha may have had meaning for them.
Send me more information about yourself and your findings.
Thanks, Marg

My Grandfather was Walter William Edward Klaehn and his father was August Klaehn. I have since received in formation on a William Klaehn in Australia. He had a father named Carl and wife Martha. How could that fit? Were there three brothers or four? Did some choose to go to the US and some to Australia?
Let me know if this helps with your research.

I need to talk to my wifes grandmother about those names. She knows more about them than I do. I will get back with you after I talk to her.
