I have searched the surname Klaassen and it could be Danish or Bavarian...it seems that the original surname was Klausen or Clausen which is one of the top Danish surnames...but coat of arms for Klausen on another web site dates back to 11th century and says it's Bavarian..please e-mail me with any info or questions. My g grandfather was Andries Jacobus Klaassen.

I just stumbled accros this tread as I was searching for my doughters website ( she is 14 and I need to watch here ;-) ).
I do not know if we are of same decendants but one thing for sure if you read this tread and read the old names allot of them are German. The religion ( Menonite ) also seems to be common. I have a ( copy ) of a book that has been handed down to the eldest son( I am the jungest this is why I only have a copy, my older brother has the original ) in this book the eldest son always wrote what happened in his life in started in the 16th century. The Klassen name commes from Holland the reason why they moved to Germany was that in 1515 ( under Karls 5 ) to 1555 they chased all none catholics from Holland. One person of the Klaassen fammily actually wrote a book about the Klaassen familly ( very limited qty ).
I am soory to say that it is written in German.

hope this helps you.

Rgds,

Ralf
