Hello!
My ancestors came here to Kansas from Sweden. They changed their name from Johnson(Johansson) to Kjellberg after they got here. It seems there were to many Johnsons in this area and they weren't getting their mail. Kjellberg or as they said it was pronounced (Shell A Bay) was the name of the estate they lived on in Sweden. It means mountain stream. At least that is what the family always said it meant. Hope this helps you somehow! Gayla (Polson) Hogan

HI! My family came to the US in 1868 from Sweden. They arrive in NY and it was my GGgrandfather(Daniel William), his wife(Anna), and his brother (Johan) Kjellberg. By the time they settled in Wisconsin(one generation before the move to Minn) the name was being spelled Kallberg. Johan move to NJ, not WI. I was told by a Norweigen friend it means Ice Mountain. In Sweden it's very, very common, both in the original and current spellings. Hope that helps. Fell free to contact me.

I found a Alma Kjelleberg who married a Martin Christenson in Yellow Medicine County MN on 11/30/1926. Any chance she is in your family line?
