Classification: Query
Surnames: Kjar, Volk, Ogorsolka, Lauby, Andersdatter
My name is Scott Kjar, son of Don Kjar (b. 1942), his father was Robert Kjar (1913-1992), his dad was Carl Kjar (1852-1940), (siblings were Hans, Elizabeth and Albert). they were in Lexington, Nebraska, Dawson County. His dad was Christian Kjar who came over from Denmark in 1871. His dad was Nels Kjar Christiansen (married to Cidsel Marie Andersdatter). The interesting thing is the reason why we have the Kjar name is because it was Danish tradition for the 2nd generation to take the father's middle name for their last name. This makes it kind of difficult to go further back because I would have to understand the Danish tradition - did they always use the Kjar and Christiansen names, switching off, or was it random? Christian Kjar married Mary Ogorsolka Volk (brother was Jacob Ogorsolka, friend of Christian) and I'm trying to find something on her side. She was from Germany but that is all I know. She came over on January 27 1880 (she was a widow) she had 4 children with Volk - John, Paul, Anna and Maria) her passport had the name Maria Ogorsolka Wluka Volk. Her and Christian had 4 children - Hans, Elizabeth (married name Lauby), Albert and Carl (my g grandfather)Any Kjar out there recognize any of these names?
Thanks!
Scott
