I am looking for information on my Great Great grandfather John Kizer from TN. He was married to Fanny Blair but that is as far as I can go. He had a son by the name of William Kizer who was married to Vallie Reynolds. William and Vallie are both buried in Littleton CO.

Could this possibly be your John? If so I can give you quite a bit of information.

JOHN KIZER (JOHN C., JOHN) was born August 08, 1844 in Houston County, Tennessee, and died September 15, 1855 in Marshall County, Mississippi.

Mary,
My husband is also from John and Fannie from Sumner Co, TN. I've done extinsive research on this family and have posted the information on www.gencircles.com In the name field put in Fannie Blair or John Kizer or Philip Kizer. My file is under All Around the US.
I have now accounted for all the children of Philip Sr. There are other Kizers in Blount co but not related that I can find. I can't go any further than Philip Sr but you can look at the notes on my files and see what I don't know.
I have also posted information on the Sumner Co, rootsweb site, which is great.
John was in the civil war and I got his military information including his being captured and held at Camp Douglas.
Enjoy and let me know how you fit in.

The John Kizer who was lived in Houston (originally Montgomery County where he was one of the petitioners to create Stewart County, later part of this was divided into Houston) was married to Polly Cook who evidently died amd he remarried as at his death he was married to Hannah, 24 years youner. John Kizer had a son John C born in Houston County and who died in Marshall County, MS. and John C. had a son named William. Any time there are this many similarities there is usually some family connection due to the similarity of names. I have just finished a book, a memoir of my mother who was a Kizer and spent some time in researcing her line.

The information I have is from 2001 from www.rootsweb.com/~tnsumner/kizerph.htm. It shows that John Kizer and Frances Blare had eleven children. John was born in 1803 and died 1/12/1860. I was able to get copies of things like deeds for John from rootsweb.com and boards.ancestry.com.

His father was Philip Kizer, Sr. who was born about 1771 in Germany and died before 1829 in Sumner County, TN. I don't have the name of his wife but do have info for their six children.

From an unknown source I have that Kizer is from the Greek word "C'sar". In German the word Kaiser is pronouced Kizer. You can also look for the variations Kaiser, Kiser and Kyser. The family name you are researching may have been Keiser at first because Philip Kizer's daughter named one of her son's Phillip Keiser Derr. Family members say that Philip Kizer was a Black Dutchman, a German from the Black Forest.

From an unknown source, I also got that Philip Sr. married a Swedish woamn about April 6, 1783.

For Frances Blare (or Blair), I also don't have my sources readily available. I have that she was born on May 2, 1798, the daughter of Peter and Sara Blare (Blair). Her nickname was Fanny. She died on April 20, 1876 in TN and is buried in Old Beech Cemetery on Long Hollow Pike in Hendersonville (actually in the country near there). I visited the cemetery several years ago and was able to find her grave as well as those of several other Kizers.

Hope this helps!

I have a ton of information on the Kizer family from Blount Co, TN for anyone else who is interested. My 3GGrandfather was Joseph Kizer, married to Sarah Parker, and he was the first of my line to live in Tennessee. He moved there from NC, but I also have the information all the way back into Germany with the Kizers there.
