Kivett Family Records

I am a 7th generation descendant of Pieter Kieviet (or similar spelling) and his wife Anna Barbara [Unknown] who are thought to be the original Kivett family to settle around 1750 in what is now Eastern Randolph Co., NC. It is believed that Pieter immigrated from what is now the Friesland part of the Netherlands, or possibly the Rhineland area of Germany. Other origins have been reported, but no documented proof of his European homeland has yet surfaced here.

I was born and grew up outside Ramseur, NC, just a few miles from the site of Pieter's lands and his McMasters Family Cemetery burial place near Liberty, NC. Although just an amateur who started collecting records about ten years ago, many generous contributors have allowed me to build a continually growing data base which now includes over 21000 individuals who are related somehow to this Kivett family. About 6600 are believed to be directly descended from the eight children of this couple. All listings are indexed to filed supporting hard-copy source documents, which can be referenced as required. Great care is taken to check the accuracy of inputted material, but not all submissions have not been corraborated here by public records. Confilcting information is noted when found.

The Peter Kivett Family Association of Liberty has shared their records amassed over many years, and asked me to serve as their official record keeper. In order to respect the efforts of the many valued contributors, the privacy of listed living individuals, and to not spread any innacurate information too widely, I have not posted these records on any public site. However, I will freely share what I have collected, although some of it yet possibly innacurate and incomplete, with any private family member or responsible individual researcher in exchange for the addition of their records or personal knowledge. I promise to continue to treat any such submitted information responsibly, but would like permission to further share it privately as described.

To show my appreciation, I usually return a large custom packet of listings and general Kivett family information to all new contributors who furnish a mailing address.

Anyone who wishes to participate in this ongoing quest to responsibly document and spread more complete Kivett family records, or discover their connections back to Pieter, should contact me directly at my E-mail or postal address listed below.

My husband's father John Kivette, Jr. was born in PeaRidge in Marion County around Winfield and Guin. We called "old" john Papa. Papa had several sons and daughers. I believe he was married to a lady whose maiden name was Butler. Papa was kind of short and reminded me of Snuffy Smith; I never met MAMA Kivette, but I understand she was a tall large woman. She carried a lot of
indian blood. John Jr. had several sibs besides him. Grady; Vado (I think he was a
policeman); Seems like there were another couple of girls, too.
John Jr. died at age 63 at Brookwood Hospital in September 1984 just before our third child was born in December. John Jr. had married Robbie Lee Estes and they hd 2 living childen; Sheila and Rickey J.

I don't know much about this family. Sometimes I think the Motto of those I've ried to talk to about sensitive issues Is the creed "don't tell nobody" and family is family and you protect them no matter wh

I deduced you were talking about a branch
of Kivetts who I think all spring from a
single transplant from Randolph Co., NC
to Northwestern Alabama around 1850.

I have quite a bit to share on this group,
and quite a bit yet to learn. Please
contact me directly at the following
E-mail address, including a name and
mailing address to continue the
discussion.

bkivett@greenville.infi.net

Please be patient. I may need a little
more to go on from you and we may have
to work at this for a while, but I think
we can help each other with this line.

Though some researchers have suggested that Peter Kivet was Holland-Dutch, I believe the evidence confirms that he came to Pennsylvania from the Palatinate in Germany and that he or his forbears were originally French Huguenots. I have posted documentation to this effect at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~djwm. The site includes nearly 3000 descendants and traces the early migrations of Kivetts from NC west and northward. It also includes an index of all the Kivetts listed. I am always looking to correct misinformation, so please let me know if you find errors. Thanks.
