My interest is in the Edward Kitcheman and Mary Ann Raistrick you refer to in the Shackeleton thread.I am currently trying to compile a tree for a friend, now living in NZ ,who is Edward's Great Great nephew. His G G Grandfather Joseph is a brother of Edward and Emma.
You mention that you have further information on this family, and I am wondering if you would be willing to share some of it.I have been battling with these Kitchemans for about six months, but have been unable to get any further back than Edward Kitcheman b ca 1791 ,and his wife Mary b ca 1801 Surname unknown (to me!!).
I have searched the message boards before and come up with nothing,so was delighted and amazed to see your post.
Regards
Barbara

First of all, is this the family you have been working on?

1881 Census Civil parish: Horton In Bradford County/Island: YorkshireCountry: England Street address: 63 Fenton St Registration district: BradfordSub-registration district: HortonED, institution, or vessel: 10
John Kitcheman 36
Harriet Kitcheman 34
Edward Kitcheman 17
Anne Kitcheman 15
Samuel Kitcheman 12
Joseph Kitcheman 7
Emma Kitcheman 5
Sarah Hannah Kitcheman 3
John Robert Kitcheman 1

Joseph’s parents are John Kitcheman and Harriet Naylor.
Joseph is a nephew of Edward Kitcheman and Emma Kitcheman, not their brother.
His father, John, is Edward Kitcheman and Emma Kitcheman’s brother.
John Kitcheman’s parents are Samuel Kitcheman and Hannah Mann.
Th furthest I have researched back is Samuel Kitcheman and Hannah Mann on the 1851 census.
Does this help at all?
What information are you missing in your research on this family? Maybe I can help.

Thankyou for such a speedy reply.
Yes,this is the family, sorry.John, not Joseph I am counting Kitchemans in my sleep these days.
What I am trying to find is more information about Samuel's parents; Edward and Mary.I have them on the 1841 Census, but can find no births or marriage on the IGI or any other source & I have no idea what Mary's maiden name might be.I am totally unfamiliar with the Bradford area,so it will be a matter of searching the surrounding parishes. Can't complain though - it's such a distinctive name,I will get there eventually.you have solved one mystery already - why I couldn't find Edward after the 1881 census?Do you happen to know of any other family members who emigrated?
Thanks
Barbara

He was a postman. He married Kitcheman-Harriet Aritha Wilson 13 Oct 1892 Ottawa,Carleton. Ontario
Harriet died and he married Florence Stanford 30 Aug 1920 Ottawa,Carleton. Ontario
Herbert’ father was supposed to be Harry Kitcheman and Mary ( Ann or Ellen) Barber
The only children of Samuel Kitcheman andHannah Mann I have found on the census of England are John, Edward, Mary Ellen, and Emma. Do you know of a brother Harry?
I cannot find Samuel Kitcheman and Hannah Mann on the 1841 Census of England probably because of all the spelling variations of the name. Could you please send me the 1841 census they are on. Thanks.

Hope this helps in your research.

Catherine

Thankyou again, that will save me hours of searching!
Samuel was still living with his parents in 1841,indexed as KITCHMAN :
1841 Census Bradford

Longcrofts Place
Edward Kitchman Male 50 W Dyer Born in County
Mary Kitchman Female 40 No Occ Born in County
Samuel Kitchman Male 15 Warehouseman Born in County
William Kitchman Male 15 Former? Born in County

John Kitchman Male 13 Piecer Born in County
Ann Kitchman Female 11 Piecer Born in County
Thompson Kitchman Male 9 No Occ Born in County
Edward Kitchman Male 5 No Occ Born in County
James Kitchman Male 1 No Occ Born in County

I haven't been able to pin Hannah down,as she is not at home with what I believe to be her parents,Joseph Mann and Hannah Briggs ,on the 1841 and there are so many Hannah Manns of approximate age.I intend to get the marriage certificate, first have to clear the expense with my friend.

No, I'm sorry, I can't shed any light on Harry - it has been a puzzle to me as well.

This tree is still in the early stages, but I would be happy to send you what I have got so far.If only for you to correct any errors I have made.
I have some more recent information yet to be added, could do that in a day or two.
Thanks
Barbara
