My father is Elliot (living), his parents were Leon and Blanch. Spelling could have been Kitaj when they came from Poland. Does anyone have some more information?

I just saw your message on the ancestry website. My mother's maiden name was Kitay. Her father's name was Wasyl Kitaj. He changed his name after coming here from Poland in 1923, to William Kitay. He and his wife and three daughters lived in the lower east side of New York. He was Ukrainian according to my mother. He was born in 1892 in Skalat, Galicia, Austria. This area later changed to Poland or the Ukraine, I'm not sure.

I've been told that most "Kitay's" are related. My grandfather Wasyl's father's name was Mikola and his mother Yawdocha or something like that.

My grandfather came over here for the first time as a young man in 1911 and stayed with a cousin in Manhattan. I believe we have relatives in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and possibly New York.
