My husband's name is Jack Kitay,Houston, TX, his father's name was Alex from Houston, TX, Detroit, MI and born in Pittsburgh, PA, grandfather's name Jacob Kitay, Pittsburg, PA born in Russia. I have been doing research on the family and would like to be able to find the link between the Kitay's I have found. I would be interested in knowing names, locations, place of birth and any other information you might have.

Hi Daniel, Thanks for writing. I was beginning to think we would never hear from anyone. I posted last year. We live in Houston, Texas and wasn't aware there were any Kitay's in Australia. My husband's family is originally from Russia, Lithuania and Poland. Do you know where your grandparents were from or their parents? We have a really good library here, but I have had trouble finding out anything about the Kitay's. My husband's name is Jack. We have 3 boys - Darryl, Dwayne and Alex and 1 daughter, Stephanie. We also have 5 grandchildren. Jack's father and mother were from Pittsburgh, PA. Please write again. We would love to hear from you and about your family. Linda

Hi. My father came from Racioz, Poland, to New York in about 1925. We moved to Chicago in the '50's. My husband and I lived in Houston from 1993 to 1998. Now we're in Charlotte, NC. Anyway, I'd love to hear more about Kitays. My father had a sister, Florence, who married a Kalmanash. She died many years ago, and I haven't kept track of them at all. Anyway, would love to hear about any Kitays.

G'day Linda I note that you have been in corespondence with my grandson Daniel. I have now moved to Perth from South Africa --when I was in the USA some years ago I was given an extensive KITAY family tree and I do have some information My grandfather was Moshe Meyer and was one of six children by name Bernie, (who lived in Washington USA and whose children changed their name to Grossberg) Zissel,Sam (who lived in Paterson NJ ), Sarah (who married a Bersch ), Elkah Riyah ( who married a Jankelowitz and whose family are in South Africa and Australia ) and Pessa Beila ( who came to South Africa with my Grandfather) I have also been in touch with a Minni Lakind from the USA re the Kitay's My e-mail address is kitay@arach.net .au

I found another connection in the Kitay tree My grandfather, Moshe Meyer's father was Yisrael . Yisrael had a brother Schlomo ben Meier(born in Grusden, Russia 1832-1905) who married Golde Moskowitz. They had 4 children 1 ISADORE m Lilian Perlstein and his family is Sidney who had a son Michael .The father and son were present in South Africa at my son's wedding soon after Sidney lost his wife Rhoda m Kaminz Anita m Milton Hirschfeld Gay m Moris Mandon--we were happy to meet them some many years ago on their visit to Johannesburg , South Africa. I recall they were starved for kosher meat which we were happy to provide 2 HERMAN m Sally Bluestone A daughter married a Leonard Stein and lived in the UK 3 Buna Elkah m Zalman Kaplan 4 NATHAN m Ada Lifschitz
Are we making progress
Also, if this part of the family is recognised by any one concerned, please contact me so that I can complete
I also note that the name KITTAI appears under a Yitzrolh (1809-1909 ) who married a Malle with children Meir Noah m Ida Friedman , David Nissan m Debora Goldberg , Schlomo, & Blume m Scholem Razumny

Linda: For whatever reason, I just came across your email regarding the Kitay family....I have spoken with your father before I believe. Anyhow, in the early 1980's I conducted a rather thorough Kitay family search and was able to track back much information. I live in Pittsburgh and my maternal grandmother was Lillian Kitay. I have much data if you would like to compare notes; however mine is all on paper - prior to the internet! Please email me or phone me at 412-421-8275. Thanx and hope to speak soon. Todd Siegel

Hi Todd, The part about your living in Pittsburgh caught my eye. My mother was a Kitay. She used to visit relatives in Pittsburgh and other parts of Pennsylvania. We have no idea who our cousins are. Her father was Wasyl Kitaj, from Skalat, Galicia, Austria, which later became the Ukraine or Poland. He was born in 1892 and emigrated here in 1923 with my mother as a baby and his wife Barbara and Olga, his oldest daughter. His father's name was Mikola and his wife was Yawdocha or something like that. My mother was raised in the lower east side of Manhattan. She is now deceased. If you think we might be related, please contact me. My grandfather changed his name from Wasyl Kitaj to William Kitay. Thank you. Carol Keyworth carolnjohn@sprynet.com

You mention a Scholem Razumny. I know of a Scholem Razumny (1858-1936) who apparently lived in Riga, from my own family tree. Could that be the same person?
He had a number of children, whose names I have as Fanny Siminowski, Ella Shapow, Jetty Shapow, and Mark Razumny.
