Hi, my grandmother(now deceased) was also from vitebsk. Her family came to the US around 1900 as well. She was one of about 9 siblings. Unfortunately, I don't know all of their names, but they did live in Brooklyn so I am wondering if there is a connection.
Please write back if you have any information. Thanks

Janice:

If you can provide me the names of your grandparents and any siblings that would be helpful. I have spent time tracing the roots of our name and I think I can hlep you if you give me some names.

Thanks,
Jack Kitaeff

Hi again,

My grandmother's name was Rose. I know that her sisters were Anna, Pauline, and Sylvia. I know she had a brother Irving as well as two or three others. Her mother was Janine( or something similar, I am named for her) I am unsure of the other names. Please keep in touch if you find any other information. I am always interested in finding out more.

Take Care,

Janice

Hi my grandmother's name was Sylvia Kitaeff. Kitaeff was her madian name. She was originally from the NYC area. Robert who was my grandfather married her in MA. Maybe my grandmother, Sylvia Kitaeff was who you mentioned. She past away in either 1981 or 1982.

Was your Max the son of Jack and Rose Kitaeff of NY by chance? I am researching Selina Gomberg who later wound up being Max's stepmother. Please let me know if this fits into your information.

Thanks

Boris,

If you are still interested (six years after your posting), I can share that Serge Kitaeff's wife Anna and son Innokenty left Japan around 1923 (when Serge was in a mental institution) and after their house in Yokohama was destroyed in the Great Kanto earthquake. They came to the USA where Innokenty was a student at MIT in 1925. I don't have any further info but wuld be thrilled to know if his children and grandchildren are still around. I wrote lately an article about Serge Kitaeff and his collection - would be happy to give a link.
