Re: Daniel Kirkendall, b. Jun 1, 1816-Feb 25, 1892, Columbiana, Ohio

Anne,
Thank you so much for the really speedy reply. I feel so lucky after all these years that someone can verify the Kirkendall line beyond Daniel & Elizabeth Crawford of Columbiana, OH. There is conflicting data on the Internet that Daniel, Sr.'s parents were Van Kirkendall, 1790-1895 Columbiana, OH who married Keziah Milbourn, 1791 VA - 1865 DeKalb, IN.

I'm thrilled that you cleared this up. Then, I am I correct that the father of Daniel Kirkendall, Jr. b. 1 Jun 1816 Columbiana, OH - d. 25 Feb 1892 Greenburgh, Putnam, OH who married Elizabeth Crawford (1837-1879) is the son of Daniel Kirkendall, Sr., b. 17 Dec 1765 Sussex, NJ - d. 1856 Columbiana, OH and married (bef. 1798 PA) Elizabeth (Van Aken?) b. 1778 MD - d. aft. 1850.

And Daniel Kirkendall, Sr.'s father was Benjamin Kirkendall, b. 9 May 1742 PA - d. 12 Aug 1802 PA and married 1762 in PA Sarah Ann Jones, b. 1742 PA - d. 1805 PA.

And Benjamin Kirkendall's father was Leur Kuykendall, b 27 Oct. 1706 Orange, NY - d. 13 June 1789 PA and married Helena Consalis Duk, b. 25 Oct 1713 Ulster, NY- d. 1751 NJ.

Also, am I correct that Leur Kuykendall's father was Cornelius Van Kuykendall (1686-1753) NY and Marretjen Westfall (1686-1753) NJ & PA. Then Cornelius was the son of Leur Jacobsen Van Kuykendall (1650-1720) NY and Grietje Aertze Tack (1663-1720) NY and the rest is well documented.

Please let me know if you concur with the above. I have the 1st 5 gens. from me and the 1st Kirkendalls to come from Netherlands, but it is the middle ones that are conflicting. Agaijn, thank you so much for your help.

Sally Davis

The only Mary Welch I have in my gedcom now was born Mar 3, 1834 in Virginia and married William V Kirkendall son of Van born Apr 4, 1791. Another of Van's sons was Daniel KIrkendall/, born Nov 17, 1823, who married Mary Armstrong in Seneca Co., OH Nov 11, 1842. Back 11 years ago, I was still trusting other people's research. In my notes for Van, I still have a decendency "tree" for Van's family I had copied to give the other researcher credit, and for my own reference until I could look them up myself. It was the source of the error - probably because there was so much duplication of names.

My own tree is on WorldConnect. I went to Beaver Co., PA but only found some tax records which are now online... no birth or marriage records for the Kirkendalls that moved to Columbiana, OH. I was unable to verify the maiden name of Elizabeth, wife of Daniel Sr. so that is still unknown to me.

Yes, records by reputable Kuykendall researchers say Benjamin, son of Leur KUYKENDALL, was Daniel Sr's father. I corresponded via e-mail with one who had found documentation in
Washington Co., Pennsylvania and land transfers with the name of Sarah wife of Benjamin.

Thanks for looking me up and furnishing info about Sarah.
Anne (Fender) Halford
Anne

Its been a very long time, but I just saw this post. I'm the great granddaughter of Sarah Ellen Kirkendall b. Nov 27, 1859, Continental, Putnam, OH, d. Apr 27 1937 Continental, OH and her husband, Joseph Myers Shank (1839-1920). Sarah Ellen's father was Daniel Kirkendall b. Jun 1 1816 Columbiana, OH, d. Feb 25, 1892 Greenburgh, Putnam, OH (I have Sarah Ellen & Daniel's death certs.). He was married in 1854 to Elizabeth Crawford b. Jun 17, 1837 Columbiana, OH and d. Feb 19, 1879 Putnam, OH.

I curious as to why you state he was married aft. 1840 to Mary Welch, b. 1816 in VA?

I've been searching the Kirkendalls for a very long time and have hit a brick wall. Since you seem really knowledgeable I wonder if you can help me connect Daniel Kirkendall (1816-1892) with his father, Daniel (1765-1856) who married Elizabeth Van Aken (1778)-1850)?

Do you happen to know who his father was? Was it Benjamin who married Sarah Ann Jones? And if so, is his father Luur Kuykendall son of Cornelius?

Any help would be great appreciated. Many thanks for your help.

Sally
Hi Sue,

I am also Daniel Kirkendall & Elizabeth Crawford's great great granddaughter through their daughter, Sarah Ellen b. Nov 27, 1859 - Apr 27, 1937, Continental, Putnam, OH. I'm also looking for his parents and am finding conflicting data. They are either Van Kirkendall b. 1790 OH - 1895 Columbiana, OH and Keziah Milbourn b 1791 VA - 1865 DeKalb, IN or Daniel Kirkendall b. Dec 17, 1765 NJ - 1856 Columbiana, OH and Elizabeth Van Aken b. 1778 MD - aft. 1850, OH.

Do you have any idea which they are? I'm trying to fill the middle gens. with the beginning Kirkendalls (Kuykendall) in New Amsterdam. Any help would be great appreciated. Many thanks

Kirkendall/Starr marriage in AR OK KY

Looking for my grandmother she was a Kirkendall that married a Starr. I don't know her first name. She married Henry Washington Starr son of James Carol Starr and Sarah Ann Campbell Starr. We found a note with my aunts writing saying that her mother was a Kirkendall/Kirkendoll/Kirkendahl. Could have lived in McLean Co., KY, Vinita, OK in Craig county or possible Mayes Co. They also lived in Green Forrest AR in Carroll co. Also doing DNA testing. Thanks Marcia Henderson Oklahoma City, OK mhenderson149@yahoo.com

I am sorry about the slow response.
I am a nephew of Aeolus. I have 2 aunts who are still living. Aeolus has a niece named after her. She was one of nine kirkendall kids. None of the kids knew what happened or remember what became of aeolus other than the trip to the orphanage.
One of the aunts contacted us from ohio about 12 years ago when 5 of the kids were still alive.
the other aunt lives in arizonia.

Is your mother living? We would love to communicate with her and you as I know the 2 aunts who are in their 80's would like to talk to her about their sister.
please let me know.
chuck kirkendall

Wayne was my father. I tried to talk to Albert about the info. But it was to late, he was having trouble remembering. This would be wonderful information. Thank You so much.

Change your search from Germany to The Netherlands. Wageningen. Dutch, not Deutch. I made the same mistake for over 40 years, then found THE BOOK. The first Kirkendall to come to the U.S. was the son of Luur, and before he arrived, the name Kirkendall did not exist. Luur's son was Jacob Luursen (Jacob, son of Luur). Jacob worked his way over here in the 1600's on boat run by the Dutch West Indies Trading Company. When he checked in at imigration, they Americanized him by giving him a surname that described the place he came from -- a place with a view of the River. Wageningen overlooks the Rhine River on the Netherlands side, across the river from Germany. Jacob liked to drink. He was arrested numerous time for his involvment in bar-room brawls. He died in his 30's. The rest is family history. 'can't get beyond Luur, nor learn anything about him personally.

Hello, Jane. I am your cousin, son of John, grandson of Jonathon... I most remember Uncles Christopher and Wayne and Aunts Grace and Mary (aka Maime), brothers and sisters who lived in a farmhouse in Wayne County, Shreve, Ohio. My wife Edee and I live near Dover Dam (on the Tuscarawas River in Ohio). Edee is the genealogist for both her family and mine, but I've become a whole lot more interested since we were able to really start putting pieces together. If you'd care to correspond in a more private venue, please e-mail me at jrkirkendall@gmail.com.
Hello,

We came across your message about Samuel and Catherine (Meddaigh) Kirkendall/Curtindale and the family. They were the 4-times great grandparents to my husband David. His 3-times great grandfather was their son John (one of the orphan sons). He had a son William, who had a son Jesse, who had a daughter Lura and she was my husbands mother. You can look for my family tree under the name Leion for more of the details that we have. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Laranah Leion

He had several brothers and sisters that have all passed away. My grandfather John Wilburn Kirkendall was his brother. They all lived in Silsbee, Texas. I think Speck passed away in the late 80's or 90's. I think he had 5 wives. He was said to be quite handsome.

He married my mother when she was quite young. He was a good bit older than her I believe. She had my sister when she was 15 yr. old. I will ask my sister and maybe she would like to talk to him. Do you'll live in East Texas I live in Anahuac, Tx. So good to chat with you. My name is Doris.
I descend from James, son of Christopher and Elizabth "Betsie" Buckmaster (her mother was Mary Richardson married to Joshua Wilson Buckmaster). We have a male Kirkendall who agreed to test with the Kuykendall DNA group. We match, and almost all of the matches are Kuykendall/Kirkendalls. I am sure of the Dutch not Deutch connection. Good Luck

John had 2 siblings , a sister who's name started with a "D" I believe , and a younger brother Merritt (sp?) that lived in New Castle .

This is operating on memories from childhood , but Cleona May died when grandpa was 9 I think he told me , in the Spanish Flu epidemic .

Re: Aeolus Verna Kirkendall

I believe she was born March 17th, 1926 in Independence, Iowa USA according to the 1930 census. She would have also had burn scars on her chest from a childhood accident. My mother is one of her surviving half sisters and has been trying to locate her for years. Aeolus's other sisters that were adopted out at the same time have been located, but I would appreciate any information about Aeolus.
