While doing some research on the land of Thomas Kirby, b.abt. 1800, I have come across some data which would seem to eliminate William Carroll Kirby, b.abt 1817, as his son.

However, William Carroll did marry into Thomas's family. After first wife Martha Gentry died, he remarried to Elizabeth. This Elizabeth was Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Kirby (24 Mar 1842-1 Nov 1923), daughter of Thomas.

In an 1875 deed between Thomas and Elizabeth, she is referred to as Thomas's daughter and Carroll Kirby's wife. Her death certificate lists her as the daughter of Thomas Kirby, says she is a widow, and gives the above dates for birth and death. Ollie Kirby of Pine Hill provided the death certificate information.

I do believe William Carroll and Thomas are related in some way; perhaps WC was Thomas's nephew or cousin.

In the previous post, I said Martha Gentry when it was actually Mary Gentry who was William Carroll Kirby's first wife.

Jeff,
I have been searching for Joseph Kirby b. March 31, 1920
d. July 4, 1865. His father's name was Thomas Kirby b. abt. 1800. I have not been able to locate either although we know they came from Kentucky. Do you know of any grave sites for this family? Could you tell me more about Thomas and his children? Lettie

My mother-in-law was Lavada Kirby Graves, born 4/11/1913 and died 5/31/1999. Her father was John Wesley Kirby, his father was Frank Pierce Kirby, his father was Carroll Kirby who was married to Mary Ann Gentry.
I would like to know who Carroll's father may have been. Carroll was born about 1818. Frank Pierce Kirby was born 8/3/1852.
We are having a Kirby reunion at the Sharon Woods Park in Sharonville Ohio on June 21.

Joanne,

There's a lot of people who would like to know who William Carroll Kirby's father was, including me.

The Rockcastle vital stats says WC was born in Garrard County. We know one of Francis Kirby's daughters, Elizabeth, married Nathaniel McClure in Garrard in 1815; that's close to the birthdate for WC of about 1817.

I can't help but believe there's a connection between the two Kirby families. There were several in the Jessamine-Garrard County area early on.

WC could be the son of Richard Kirby who shows up in some Rockcastle records, but of whom very little is known. Richard may have been the son of either Francis or Thomas Kirby. Just a lot of "maybes," not a lot of hard data.

Jeff

WC Kirby & Mary Ann were my 2x GGParents, Eliza Ellen my GGMother. It's been passed down in the family that Eliza was part Native American, but I have yet to find proof other than both mine & my mom's 23&Me DNA test showed trace amounts. Possibly this has something to do with the difficulty tracing William Carroll Kirby?
Appreciate any thoughts or info on this possibility.
Thanks, Janis
