Elizabeth Kiracofe married Bailey VA moved to OH
Elizabeth Kiracofe Bailey daughter of John Kiracofe and Susan Woodell married George Bailey in 1848 In Augusta Co, Va I know she moved to Allen Co, Ohio after 1860. They joined her Kiracofe brothers. Elizabeth and George's daughter was my great-grandmother ( Isabel Elizabeth also know as Bell L.) she married John Rockhill in Rockport, Allen Co, Oh. Their daughter Sarah Rockhill Goldsmith was my grandmother.
I would love to make the connection with all of the Kiracofes I find in Allen Co. and also find which Baileys belong to George and Elizabeth. If this is your family would you be so kind as to let me know. Mr Richard Shindle gave me some of the Augusta Co, Va information and the tie in to Woodell, Wackers Erwin, and other families. I would just love to get the Allen County, Kiracofes and other Ohio families into my family records. Like everyone else I waited till my mother and most of her family passed away before I tried chasing this line. I wonder why they left Virginia during the Civil War. Did it have to do with the Kiracofe families views or religion. Is there anyone who can answer this question?

I don't follow the Ben part but Elizabeth Kiracofe who married a George bailey and moved to Allen County, Ohio was my g-g-grandmother. Please reply if this is your Allen County, Ohio line. I went to Ohio, the last of August, but didn't get to do any more research because of not enough time.

Kiracofe of Virginia, Ohio, etc.
I have a Samuel William Kiracof: b. 16 June 1887; d. 10 Jan. 1957; m. Elma Alzina Worthy. No further information on their descendants. His parents were Samuel Henry Kiracofe: b. 2 April 1859, Allen County, OH; d. 26 Nov. 1887, Collett, IN; m. 22 Feb. 1880 to Sarah E. Foster. Samuel Henry was a minister. Samuel Henry's parent were William Kiracofe: b. 10 May 1827, Sangerville, Augusta Co., VA; d.5 Dec 1901, Van Wert Co., OH; m. 228 July 1950 to Malinda Brenneman. He was a United Brethren Minister in Western Ohio (Allen, Auglaise, Van Wert Co. among others). His brother John Kiracofe married my mother's aunt, Mary Showalter, and they were the parents of eight sons and one daughter. Six of the sons became United Brethren ministers in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana: Jacob H. (Ohio); John Wesley (Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania); Charles Hiram (Ohio, Indiana, illinois, first President of Huntington College, Huntington, IN. later became a Presbyterian); George William (Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, later became a Baptist minister on the Eastern Shore of Virginia); Nimrod Addison(Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania); Joseph Harvey (Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, later became a Presbyterian). The parents of John and William Kiracofe were Henry Kiracofe: b. 30 Oct. 1791, Shenandoah Co., VA; d. 2 Sept 1840 (struck by lightning), Sangerville, Augusta Co., VA; m. 26 March 1814, Rockingham Co., VA to Margaret Detamore. I am descended from two of Henry's brothers, John and George though my mother's maternal side of the family. The immigrant ancestor and father of John, Henry and George was Johann Friedrich Kirchhof (Frederick Kiracofe) who came over as part of the German auxiliary troops during the American Revolution, was captured, excaped and made his way to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. He married first,30 Dec 1782, to Catharine Wacker (widow Bowman and mother of John and Henry)and second, 24 Feb. 1795 to Barbara Koontz (mother of George). Checkout my data base on WorldConnect.Rootsweb. The entries under "wrshindl" are mine. Altough the data base is devoted primarily to my Showalter and Huffman ancestors, the early generations of these three sons of Frederick Kiracofe have recently been included.

To Richard Shindler THANK YOU! You have given us our ancestors! Samuel Henry Kiracofe is my husband's grandfather. We are searching LDS sites, so far we have John Wesley Kiracofe (if you have LDS center near you the microfilm on J. W. Kiracofe as the author of Early United Brethrenism, FHL US/CAN 1206 419 item 17 can be reviewed in its entirety.) As we gain information we will post it for you. Again THANK YOU very much we are encouraged!

I should first mention there is no "R" attached to my surname. John Wesley Kiracofe was named after his great uncle John Wesley Showalter (Shewalter). He is a first cousin of my mother, although he was 59 years old when she was born, as my she was the only child from my grandfather's second marriage. John Wesley had a good knowledge of his ancestry which he passed on to his children in which I share the Kiracofe, Showalter, Huffman, and Butt ancestry. Frederick Kiracofe (Johann Friedrich Kitchhof) settled about 1783 in Hudson's Crossroads, Shenandoah County, VA. The baptisms of the children of his first wife, Catharine Wacker, dau. of Johannes and Anna Maria Wacker, with the exception of the oldest son, John (Johannes) is recorded in the records of the Zion Pine Lutheran Church and the Zion Pine Reformed Church. Frederick later recorded the baptisms of the sons only from this first marriage in the records of Old Pine Church in which Henry's name is given as "Georg Heinrich". This has lead to some confusion when in a printed source, the author was unaware of the German practice of giving a saint's name as the firts name, either "Johann" or "Georg", and then the personal name by which the child will be known, had assumed this was my ancestor George Kiracofe. The baptisms of the first two sons of Frederick's second wife, Barbara Koontz, niece of Baptist minister John Koontz, are also recorded in the Zion Pine Lutheran Church, and their names are George and Frederick. The remaining children were born in Sangerville, Augusta County, VA and the baptismal records are more sporadic. Henry Kiracofe farm was adjacent to the Emmanuel Church where his buried and most certainly himself in the Emmanuel Cemetery. After his death, several on Henry's sons, Henry, William, and Addison moved to Allen Co., OH. Henry's oldest son, John remained in Augusta Co., VA and married Mary Showalter. Mary's parents, my great grandparents, were Jacob Showalter and Catharine Huffman. Catharine's father, George Huffman, played an important role in establishing the United Brethren Church in the Rockingham-Augusta County area of the Shenandoah Valley. He is also the progenitor of a number of ministers and minister's wives, including my mother, in the United Brethren Church. Both the Huffman and the Showalter familes had purchased large farms near Mt. Solon, VA. As a small child I remamber going up the Valley to Mt. Solon, and seeing my grandfather's farm, next to it was his brother's farm, and further up the road was the farm where John Kiracofe and his wife, Mary Showalter raised their family of eight sons and one daughter. I have a rich heritage in the Valley of Virginia.

We had a lenghty conversation this morning with my husband's sister in Wichita, Ks. She is nearing 80 years and this information has been especially a blessing to her. She remembers there was a Kiracofe book in her family but when her father's brother (Samuel William b. 16 June 1887 died, it was lost somehow to the family.) Samuel Henry Kiracofe is my husband's grandfather. You should be aware that the time you have taken to fill us in will be a great blessing to very many Kiracofes. Our son has just had his second set of twins! We have been curious as to whether or not there is a twin birth history in my husband's family. I am recently retired and my husband is partially retired (Civil Engineering) and we have finally had time to research and very fortunately for all of us this wonderful tool of the internet is now available. However, without generous persons such as yourself I am afraid we would hit a brick wall in many instances. The Kiracofe heritage is indeed a rich one. Somehow we lost the United Brethren connection evolving into Methodists. But with a name like John Wesley there must have been some Methodist influence somewhere. We have traced my own lineage back to Nicholas (S)trausbaugh, becoming Trosper from Alsace Lorraine, Gm. It was only by God's good grace and after many hours of toil that I saw that Strausbaugh had evolved into Trosper. The name evolvement makes it almost impposible to effectively trace unless there is someone like yourself who can and will share information. We are very grateful for this last message. We are pulling together as much information as we can and hope to have it updated with recent descendents. Your heritage is indeed very rich from both sides. It is a good thing to know and take joy in knowing. THANK YOU AGAIN!

John Wesley Kiracofe had a twin sister who died at age 14. He also had triplet brothers, James Herbert, Joseph Harvey, and Ira Blair Kiracofe. Ira Blair died at birth. The early history of the United Brethren Church and the Methodist Episcopal Church are closely interlinked. In fact the two churches worked close together, the Methodist Episcopal for the English speaking people and the United Brethren for the German speaking people. Until the first church building expressly built for the United Brethren in the Shenandoah Valley, the services took place in either the people's homes, in a Mennonite Meeting House where available, but more often in the Methodist Episcopal Church which fostered them. Because the Shenandoah Valley depended on the Circuit Rider, the UB often turned to the ME ministers to perform marriages, etc. Most of the work took place then at the various Camp Meetings based on the same idea as the Methodist.
