Family Kip from the Netherlands
There is a lot of information going back to the 1600 of the family Kip in The Netherlands (from the Province Noord Holland).
I am trying to find some info about (kip) ancestors that had slaves in ether New York or the West Indies (curacao). This is where my family is from.My ancestors were slaves and were trying to find out if we have any other family members that share our history.
p.s. There is also De Kyp family in Venezuela.

Re: Family Kip from the Netherlands
Hi Ayra,
I know of 2 Kip/p's that were slave owners in Westchester Co, New York (their lines moved to Westchester Co. from New York City). Benjamin Kip/p (1714-1782...some sources say this Benjamin was born in 1703) and his son Samuel Kipp (1753-1803).
There is a document (can't seem to find it at the moment) that notes slave owners and their slaves in Westchester Co, and Benjamin is listed as having a slave named "Franck". His son Samuel notes in his claim to the British government that he had a slave that ran away during Samuel's time serving in the Westchester Refugees (a Loyalist unit) during the Revolutionary War. I've never seen this man named, and often wondered if this was possibly the same "Franck" and that he'd just been transfered to Samuel when Benjamin died, but I'm not sure.
I know there were more Kip/p slave owners in New York however. During the 1741 slave rebellion, a Harry Kip/p was executed for his part, and almost surely there were many more Kip/p slaves where there may not be any documentation.
I'm glad you posted this to the list. I've often wondered if there might be any descendants of Kip/p slaves out there today. It would be very interesting to see your Kip/p line, how far you've traced it back, etc. I'd be happy to help any way I can. Hope to hear back from you. By the way, where are you located?

Re: Family Kip from the Netherlands
Dear Scott Aaron, Thank you so much for you post. What I am trying to find out is if there where any slave owners or slaves that ended up in the Curacao (dutch antilles). This is where my family is from.
I know 2 things. My grandfathers, Grandmother name is Paulina Kip. She was a slave and had a daughter by her slave holder. The name of the daugther is Adriana Kip and Adriana along with Duncan William May had a son. My grandfather Ceaser Kip.
There was also a Govenor in the Curacao from 1877 till 1880. His name was Hendrick Bernardus Kip, Son of Bernardus Cornelis Kip. Were trying to find out if we got our name from his line.
I know its a lot of info at once. Let me know if anything rings a bell with you. Ayra Kip p.s. I am situated in Amsterdam now, but my whole family still lives in the curacao and some in Aruba.

Hi Ayra,
Were all of the people you listed known to be born in Curacao, or is birthplace unknown in some of the earlier generations?

Re: Family Kip from the Netherlands
I'd love to know more about the de Kype line in Venezuala to see if there is any connection to Rulof de Kype (1510) or William de Kype (1310 - Northern Scotland). Colleen

Re: Family Kip from the Netherlands
Many of the slaves who came to Canada are documented in a text entitled The Book of Slaves. You may find something in there. There is an association in Canada dedicated to slaves who came to Canada as Loyalists and later via the underground railroad. Unfortunately I don't know what it is called but will try to locate it and let you know. Colleen

1310 Northern Scotland, William De Kype???? Where did this come from? 1310? What a line this can be. To be able to connect Ruloff De Kype (b. 1510 France) to William De Kype 1310 Scotland. What at tree!!
Would love to put this together in one GEDCOM

Re: Family Kip from the Netherlands
There was a descendant of Hendrick Kip of New York (New Amsterdam) who ended up in Jamaica in the West Indies. Don't know if that might be a link for you.
