a decade late or a few years too short...
Alright, so this is my first foray into Kious genealogy. I was able to build a crude family tree through what information was available on here, but I want more. I want it to be correct. My name is Andy Kious, from Mattoon, Illinois living in Germany with my wife and son. My grandmother Ruth (wife of Eldon Dean) did some research, I'm not sure how much and I currently don't have access to it yet. My Great-x2 Grandfather was Gilbert Kious, son of Jasper and like many on here the line goes to Nicolas (or a "Nathan") who may or may not have been married to a Frances Valentine. I don't have much to give in terms of information, but I am looking to gain knowledge, be it through letters, certificates, photos, or whatever. I'd just like to be able to tell my son where we come from...besides Illinois.

Hello from Mattoon, Illinois! Just read your message from Germany and want to let you know the Dorothy Taylor you have in your tree is not the one you need. She is my husbands sister and married a man from Charleston. Although I am in no way proficient at geniology, I find it very interesting and love finding new facts about our ancesters. I wish you good luck on your journey into the past

Oh! I didn't know that. Ok, well I'll take another look around on here to try and figure out what/who I'm looking for. Thank you for the correction/help. I agree that it is interesting to learn and find out things about our ancestors, but it is sometimes difficult to figure out which way is the right way or who the right person is.

Hello Andy.
Not sure if you will get this, but I am a distant cousin of yours. I am Harry C. Kious (Butch) from Keyesport Ill. My Great-x2 Grandfather was Milo, brother of Gilbert. I know that we are descendants of John Kious (1775-1834), to John Henry Kious (1799-1849), to William Kious (1828-1883) to Jasper William Kious and so on. I have just started looking in to the family and I have been told that at one point our family left Greece. But that prove that as of yet. Still looking. Is if safe to ask that your in the Military?

Butch,
Well, it's cool to know that there are other Kious' out there. Of course I knew there were, outside only those I have grown with. I can't find any information on Milo, not on here at least, which I found aggravating because I'd like to know who came after him and who my "distant" Kious cousins are...
The only other Kious I have met is Jared from Brownstown...and that was a coincidence of a meeting. We knew we were related for obvious reasons, but we didn't know how we were related. As for Greece, all signs point to not likely. I've been told my whole life that the name is German and far as I've found online, I'd say 97% chance it is. Problem is, I can't pinpoint the origin, where in Germany specifically, or even a original spelling. All I've seen online seems to point at a region/state in Germany, not a city.
As for the military, it is safe to ask. I am former Army (2005-2011) and my wife is currently active duty Air Force. We met at Scott Air Force Base, while we were both stationed there, and that is where I also met Jared.
I also believe that, from what I can tell from other people's research, I am possibly within 2-3 hrs away from the likely origin place of the Kious lineage. Which would answer a lot of people's questions, if I could just find a definite spelling (of last name) or the actual town not the region or German state.
