Althea's maiden name was HIX (HICKS?). The first 100 years of the Cheshire MA Vital records were destroyed in a fire, but one book of Marriage banns was later found in the possession of descendants of an early Town Clerk and returned to the Town Clerk's office. Jeremiah and Althea Hix (Hicks?) posted banns in 1799, but no date of marriage was shown. Banns were also posted in 1798 for Thomas HIX and Zilpha Whipple (m'd 21 Nov) and in 1802 for Jesse HIX and Polly Clark (m'd 24 Jan).

Thomas and Jesse may have been siblings of Althea, but a search of other records in Berkshire Co. MA provided no information on a Hix family.
