I just came across the May 8, 2001 mention of the name JOHN KING on the Bedford County, PA message board. I am wondering if this could be the same John King I have been searching for information about for months. My great, great, great grandfather was John King, born c1774 probably in Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD. He married ELLEN SHRYOCK, born May 27, 1778, daughter of JOHN SHRYOCK and MARY PARKER TEAGARDEN.

I have information on only one child born to John King and Ellen Shryock, though there may have been others. That one child is GEORGE SHRYOCK KING, born Oct. 28, 1809 in Hagerstown, MD, died Dec. 8, 1903 in Cambria Co., PA, buried in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. In 1834 in Bedford County, PA, George Shryock King married ELIZA McDOWELL, born July 19, 1812 in Bedford Co. Eliza was the daughter of CHARLES McDOWELL, born Sept. 26, 1780 in Dublin, Ireland, and ELIZABETH CHURCHMAN, born 1782. On September 1,1805, Charles McDowell founded the Bedford newspaper, "The Bedford Gazette" and was the publisher of "The Gazette" until 1833 when he sold the paper to Gen. George Bowman.

George Shryock King and Eliza McDowell later moved to Johnstown, Cambria Co., PA where he was one of the founders of the Cambria Iron Works. They had 14 children, one of whom was ALICE ELIZABETH KING who married KENNAN SNYDER FISHER.

Does anyone have information on any of these Bedford Co., families, especially the family of John King?
