"Born May 28, 1928, in Spiro, Oklahoma to Opal Fulsom DeGraftenreed and Lilburn C. DeGraftenreed. She departed this life on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 81.
Leira and her siblings were well grounded in the knowledge of God and she accepted Christ in the Methodist Faith. She remained a Methodist until she moved to Kansas City, Missouri and became a member of Canaan Worship Center where she had been a member for 45 years. She was a member of the Usher Board and Senior Choir.
She received her formal education at Douglass Junior High and High School and graduated on May 14, 1943. She was an active member of the Douglass Tigers basketball team. She also loved table tennis and participated in spelling contests.
Leira DeGraftenreed relocated from Oklahoma to Kansas City, Kansas, where she lived and worked before meeting and then marrying Henry J. Kinard and moving to Kansas City, Missouri. To their union nine children were born.
Her husband, one child, her mother and father, three brothers and two sisters all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters,...; five sons,...all of Kansas City, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
Leira was an avid listeners and participant of the KPRT 1590 Scripture Shower. She loved Bible scriptures and giving prayer. Leira was a loving and caring mother and a beautiful doting grandmother. She could not get enough of those great-grandchildren and they love her so much. She will be deeply missed."
