I know of one Kinard who was definately part African-American. He was also part Muscogee (Creek) Indian.
His name was Jack Kinard (Kinnard, Canard) and was in
Georgia. He is somehow related to William and John Kinard, but I don't know exactly how. There is a writeup about him I found on the internet somewhere and I will try to find it and send it if I can. His time frame was before Indian removal in Georgia. William and John Kinard came to St. Marks, Fl., but I don't know what happened to Jack. Jack owned a plantation on a river in Georgia, and from the article, seemed to be a ruff man. He supposedly cut the ear off his wife while drinking because he suspected she was unfaithful. He was in contact with the Indian Agent at that time and he is in some history books.

I think that there are two sets of African American Kinards in the Clinton, Laurens County area, or so it seems. They are all probably related somehow. Anyway, Peter Kinard and Easter Wyatt-Kinard are my great grandparents. Easter's death certificate notes that she was born in Newberry, S.C. I believe that Peter and she migrated to Clinton from Newberry. Peter and Easter had a daughter, Nora Jane. Nora Jane was my grandmother. Nora married Buster Cunningham and they had children; Roosevelt, Jon Cortt (JC), Johnny, and daughters, Carrie Elizabeth and my mother Jessie Belle.

The Bedenbaugh "Place" or plantation seems to figure into my family's history...still searching for more information.

I am also searching for African American/Indian Kinards with roots in SC. Mattie Kinard was my great-great grandmother (born around 1902, died 1994). She was raised by her uncle and aunt (Jeff/Wiand), I believe her mother and father were Lidie (spelling may be different) and William (both died when she was young). Siblings and/or cousins in the house with Jeff and Wiand were Hester, Joe, Mary, David, Booker L., James and Marcus. If anyone has any information about these relatives, please send email to price1@students.depaul.edu. As far as I know, when my great-great grandmother passed away she still had relatives living in the northern/north eastern states. Hopefully, someone has more information that could possibly links our familys together and reunite us. Thanks!

I know this is an old thread, but I come from a very long line of Kinard's coming from Greenwood, South Carolina. My great grandfather's name was Willie Fred Kinard, my great grandmother being Rosa Bell, although I'm unsure of her maiden name.
