Why cant i find anything on Kinally???

Is Kinally an uncommon name?? I seem to be having alot of problems with it. My GG Grandfather was Benjamin John Kinally on the census it says from England, on his marriage certificate it says his father is a John McKinally, I've tried searching for Benjamins brith certificate and all i can find is a Benjamin John McKinelley. I'm finding it all abit confusing and i'm not sure if i'm going along the wrong line can anyone help? I have a story that was written by one of Benjamins daughters and she has put her name as a McKinally but unfortunately the story is only 2 pages and tells about the start of her life and nothing else. I would say Benjamin was born 1861/62

Kerry,
Kinally is not a common name but it did exist the Dunmore area in 1855.

Census names are frequently misspelled, probably by the census takers or it could be that it being a British census, the Irish wouldn't give their right name.

There are also variations of Kinally such as Kinealy and Kinnealy both much more common.

I took a quick look in www.lalley.com but did not see a Benjamin

Anyway, good luck!

Thank you for looking anyway, i don't know much about history but my father said the same thing, if Benjamin was Irish why would he lie about his name?? It seems strange though because in Benjamins daughters story she does mention that 2 of his friends came over from Ireland which makes me think that he may have been from there but then if so would he have lied on census day saying he was born in england??

Kerry,
One thing is for sure, Benjamin is not one of the most popular Irish first names. I can safely say that I have never knew a Benjamin or Ben from Ireland.

I don't believe that the Irish are more prone to lying than any other race but back in the good old days the British would transport you to Van Deimans Land or The West Indies for a minor crime. And huge amounts of Irish disappeared in that way, English too, and if people muddied the waters a little, one can hardly blame them, given the consequences.

Benjamin Disraeli was popular Prime Minister of England and I would think that more than a few parents named their sons after him.

So now that I have muddied the waters a little more for you, good luck!
