In other words, her great grandmother, Emiline Amelia Kimmell, was William's sister. I have some of the history on my Family history which if you want you may look at. If you know of any of William's direct descendants, let me know. I have somethings of his that they may mor may not want.
Mark Frahm
I have come to think that my grandmother was not Chocktaw after all. It has been difficult to get all the facts since my father passed away. I have come to believe it is another grandmother they are referring to.What a relief, because that was a huge road block! With that said. I would be very interested in your info and pics on Wise Kimmell. I am no longer a paying member of Ancestry,so if you are having trouble contacting me,I can give you some info here. Thanks!

The dates for Wise Kimmell are 1905-1927. I would like to know the information about his father, Samuel and perhaps Samuel's siblings. I have a photograph of Wise Kimmell's monument. It is very curious to me. I was wondering who he was and even more importantly, who his parents were and what they did for a living. The reason I say this is that young Wise is buried in the Devil Anse Hatfield family cemetery. Wondering why he is buried there and also his monument is as large as Devil Anse's childrens. Also, on his monument, it actually say, "killed by accident". If you would like a copy of the photo, please send me a message

Timothy,
Hello, I am Becky Kern, and George Kimmell was my great grandfather. (Yvonne is my neice) I see this post is a bit old so I hope you are still following it. I was able to visit the graves on Sunday of George and take some pictures. This family is so very hard because as my mom said yesterday, some dropped the second L others did not. We, George & Mabel, did. However, I told mom on the grave stone they put on both L's!! My mother, George's granddaughter has her 80th Birthday Party this Sunday...there are close to 100 of us still living in Barron County!!! As mom had a family of 10 and so there are many, many grand children and even more greats, (6 in 40 days this year)!!! I am wondering if you would have any old pictures of the Kimmel's, if so would you please email them to my husband's email address or contact me here and I could call you and give you another/private email address? I would so love to get mom a nice old picture and it would be wonderful for everyone to see at the party this weekend too. I would be happy to send you the pics of George & Mabel's grave too. The grave on George's mom is also in the same cemetery in Barron, WI, my mom thinks it is somewhere near George & Mabel's grave. My husband and I did not find it on Sunday but if we get time we may get back and look for it. I would so appreciate any family info you could give me.
Thanks so very much,
Becky Swan Kern

I don't know if this, perhaps, the same Wise Kimmel or not. Yesterday, while visiting the Hatfield family cemtery we photographed a large monument beside the family plots of Devil Anse Hatfield. The monument read, Wise F. Kimmel, 1905-1927, Killed by accident. I can e-mail you the photo if you'd like. Just send me a message.

I contacted Yvonne.

For others following this thread: Daniel Kimmell's (1827-1908) obituary appeared in the March 26, 1908 Waterloo (Indiana) Press. After the death of John's first wife Frances Josephine nee Fesler (1855-1902), John Theodore Kimmell (1854-1943) married second wife Anna Mae Jordan, daughter of Isaac LeRoy Jordan and Louisa Lavina nee Jones. Anna had a daughter Pearl Esther (1906) by her first husband Clifford Hubert Spencer.

To John and Anna Kimmell were born Montana Louisa Kimmell (1913) and Leo A. Kimmell (name as per death rec. index) (1915). Anna died days after childbirth and Leo died a couple months later.

John Kimmell died in the Montana State Hospital outside Anaconda in 1943.

Sometime between the 1910 census and 1913, John Kimmell married the much younger--by at least 30 years--Anna May (Jordan) Spencer, and became the father of Montana Louise Kimmell. Ann May died on 14 Jan 1915 and is buried in Livingston's Mountainview Cemetery. (See Find-a-Grave) I have not found him in the 1920 census. But, in the 1930 census, I do find John Kimmel (sic), age 74, born Ohio, in Livingston, Park Co, Montana. He is living alone and his occupation is given as Janitor. The next year, 1931, his daughter Montana Louise married Bernard Bequette in Livingston, Park Co, Montana. According to the Montana Death Index, John Kimmel, age 88, died on 9 Mar 1943.
Timothy,

I am the great great granddaughter of George Daniel Kimmel, son of John Theodore Kimmell and Josephine Fesler, note George dropped one l from his last name while his brother Carl Wallace kept both l's. I know that Josephine died in Western WI and is buried here and all of her children were married in Barron or Dunn Counties. George married Mabel Grace Taber and they had several children, and many generations later their decendants still live in Barron County, where I too grew up. After John is widowed and living in Rusk County WI at the 1910 census I lose track of him. You mentioned you had an obit for his father, could you please e-mail me a copy or contact me regarding how best to obtain a copy, might you also have an obit for Lucinda Kimmell? You also mention him getting remarried and having more children, I have none of this information and would greatly appreciate anything you could share with me.
Yvonne swanyvonne@hotmail.com

I don't know if the Gen. Anthony Kimmel letters still exist. But Dr. H. K. Stoner, Kimmel family researcher, refers to the letters in a 1937 report on the family. The detail he shared from the letters is at http://www.kimmelfamily.net/Doc-Anthony.htm
Re: Glendolene Myrtle Kimmell

Hi, Don:

The Hawaiian thing is just a complete myth. Glendolene was as Caucasian as she could be and a bit of a blue blood. I have no idea where the Hawaiian thing came from, but it was probably another embellishment added by Joe LeFors and Company to spice up the egregious Tom Horn "confession." There is no evidence that Glendolene even visited Hawaii at any time in her life. She came to Wyoming two years after graduating from high school in Hannibal, Missouri. Her father, her older brother and her baby sister died when she was very young and she and her mother lived with her maternal grandparents, Jonathan and Charlotte Pierce, in Hannibal, Missouri until she left home to come to Wyoming. After resigning her post at the Iron Mountain school in the wake of the murder of the Nickell boy, she returned to Hannibal, then worked in St. Louis as a stenographer. She returned to Wyoming briefly in 1903 to try to convince the governor to pardon Horn. She was arrested and charged with perjury for her efforts. Once Horn was executed, the prosecuting attorney dropped the charges against her, saying he had made a mistake. Glendolene then resided in Denver for awhile and then lived out the remainder of her life in California, living at first in Atascadero with her mother and then, in her later years, she became quite ill and resided at the Sunshine Rest Home in Long Beach until the time of her death in 1949. She was very poor for most of her adult life, so I don't think she was likely to have been sailing off for Hawaii or anywhere else.
Thanks for your inquiry.

Carol

(Could this have been the Kentucky territory of the state of VA at that time?) She married Jesse Starling (b. abt 1760, VA) in Jefferson Co, KY 6 Jan 1796. Looking for any Kimmel connections that might have either come from VA or migrated into Northern KY??
Any info, ideas, or contacts much appreciated.
Mike

I'm not a descendant, but am interested in this family.

The family Bible was passed down to Samuel Kimmel, and his daughter Mary presented it to the Pennsylvania Historical Society in Philadelphia. This Samuel is probably also the recepient of letters written by General Anthony Kimmel that told about the arrival in America of his grandfather Johann Philip Kimmel with Philip's sons, including Anthony, father of Gen. Anthony Kimmel, and Philip Jr., great-grandfather of Samuel Kimmel.

I did not know Samuel and Mary J.'s marriage date or Louis' full name. Dr. H. K. Stoner mentions the family in his Kimmel family research published in the 1930's. In the papers the wife's name was given as Mary Jennie Cunningham.

You are searching for John Theodore Kimmell who was born in 1854 in Stark County, Ohio to Daniel Kimmell and Lucinda Smith. The family moved to DeKalb County, Indiana where John and his first wife Josephine Fesler raised their children George D., Carl Wallace and Alta P. When John's father Daniel died in 1908 his obituary mentioned only that John lived "in the west." John's son Carl died in Wisconsin in 1964. At the time daughter Alta "Montford" was living in California. I don't know about George.

Old correspondance of mine mentioned briefly that Anna Mae Jordan was born in Wisconsin and she and John had a son in 1915 named Les Allen Kimmell, who died at about three months old. She died days after the birth and mother and child were buried together in Park County, Montana. Montana Louisa was not mentioned.

It's way too much of a coincidence that your Don Jeffrey married a Mildred Kimmell in West Virginia and the 1930 census shows Don E. and Mildred Jeffrey in Logan, WV on the very same page as Samuel F. and Mary A. Kimmell, who had a daughter Harriet Mildred of the appropriate age with them in the 1920 census. The 1930 census says their age for the census is the same as their age when marrying, so check with the Logan County, WV county clerk's office for a 1929 marriage record for Donald E. Jeffrey and Harriet Mildred Kimmell. An application for marriage license might have the names of their parents--I don't know the rules for West Virginia.

Assuming Sam and Mary are Mildred Kimmell' parents, here is the Kimmell lineage:

1.) Samuel Franklin Kimmell, 1870 Garrett Co., MD - Mary Alice Snyder
2.) Chauncey Forward Kimmell, 1839 Somerset Co, PA - Harriet Elizabeth Sinclair
3.) Jacob Roderick Kimmel, 1803 Somerset Co., PA - Juliana Sutter
4.) Abraham Kimmel, 1780 Somerset Co., PA - (wife?)
5.) Johann Jacob Kimmel, 1757 York Co., PA - Mary May Hoffman
6.) Johann Philip Kimmel, 1724 Eich, Palatinate (Germany) - Anna Christena Henn
7.) Johann Philip Kimmel, 1695 Gimbsheim, Palatinate (Germany) - Anna Elisabetha Voltz

#7 came to America in 1755, bringing his sons to York Co., PA. More at http://www.kimmelfamily.net/GIM-Philip.htm

Being a Kimmell and Snyder descendant prevents Mildred from being full-blooded Choctow or even half-blooded. But look for her 1911 birth record in Logan County, WV to be sure there wasn't an adoption.

Re: Kimmell Family WVA

Mildred Kimmell was born October 11, 1911 in West Virginia. Died in October 1976 in West Virginia. She married Don Jeffrey (1907-1977). Their children are Don,Wayne,Ross, Linda, & Douglas. My grandfather Wayne moved to Ohio & Don moved to Michigan. The others, I am not sure.

I don't know if Mildred was her first name. My late father often talked about her being full blooded Choctaw.

That's pretty much all the info of her that I have except for census clues on Harriet Mildred ( which seems the best) or a Mildred R.

I have yet to find any answers, but I do have more questions. I have been studying the census records & I have noticed that W Wise Kimmell is on the 1920 census being 12 years old, but he is not in the 1910 census. His sister Rosie is a year younger & she is in the 1910 census being a year old. Which leaves me to believe that they adopted other children. Another census has them have 2 boarders. One being a man, the other a young boy. Both have different last names.

Still searching for the answer to my grandmother Mildred's race.
My mother found her death card & it lists her as Mildred Harriet Kimmell. She also tells me she has pictures of her (I have not seen them) & she does look Native American. Maybe not full blooded, but possibly half.

I do not deny the coincidences of the census record having Samuel F & Mary Alice Kimmell as parents. However, they may not be parents by blood (both parents being German).Possibly she is adopted,or maybe has the same parent,& a different father/mother.

If anyone has info I would love to hear about it!
Her siblings are listed as Elwell F, Opal Burnis, Georgia P, Rosa Lee (or Rosie V), W Wise, & William H.

Thanks ~Christie

Lol, you know you are right about the census. Too many coincidences.

I am baffled, however on the Choctaw lineage. Perhaps there was an adoption, or some other explanation. Another puzzle piece yet to be found:)

Thank you so much for the info on the Kimmell family. I greatly appreciate it.

I will have to inquire about the WV records. I am fairly new to this searching, so I will have to find out where to write. Thanks again:)
~Christie
