Hi Alf,
The latest info I have from the IWFHS records Involving the House of Industry records is as follows - 'Isle of Wight IWRO Burial Cards Index shows this information. In recent months [2013] full records of the House of Industry (Workhouse) located in Newport, Isle of Wight, have come to light and released for public viewing. Joseph was 79 years old at the time of his death which makes his birth abt 1738/39. He was older than first thought.'
He was buried 13 May 1818 in the House of Industry Cemetary located somewhere in the grounds of St. Mary's Hospital in Newport, IW [although at the time of the death I think it was classified as being in Carisbrooke] and was 79 years old at his death. This would give his birth abt 1739 which would make his birth in 1753 wrong. I'm still looking for connections to take him back further into the dim and distant past. Thought I had found a connection to the Dorset Kimbers but not so. Have a look at what the IWFHS has on the House of Industry. Quite interesting. I have a new email address -
alanrkimber@btinternet.com.
Regards to you all. Alan Kimber
