Hi

Is anyone researching the following KIMBER family?

William Kimber & Anne Penton married 1739 Brown Candover (Winchester)

William son of John and Mary bn 1714
Ann Penton bn 1722 Brown Candover

baptised the following

William 1740, Anne 1741, Mary 1746, John 1748, Henry 1751, JOSEPH 1753, Elizabeth 1755, Steven 1758, James 1760

LDS Film No.7827530

I'm particularly interested in marriages, or deaths of any of the children, especially so of Joseph born 1753.

Thanks

Hi Alf
Your post was a long time ago (before I even started researching my ancestry). William Kimber b. 1714 Brown Candover) and Anne Penton (b. Woodmancott, Chilton Candover 1722) were my direct ancestors. My family line goes through their son, Steven (Stephen). At present don't have a info. on Joseph other than I have death in 1830 . Steven married Sarah Hutchins on 8.12.1783 at Chilton Candover. John married Olive Smith on 30.10.1748. Henry married Sarah Barter (have no date) but their children were William 1775, Frances 1778-1855, Elizabeth1781 and Hannah 1784. By birth dates/christening dates would assume the marriage was around 1775.
Apologies if you already have this information but thought I would send it just in case.
Do you have any information re the parents of John Kimber 1687? I know he was married twice and I think his parents were John and Mary - his third wife!

Best regards Vivienne

Hi MundyM. Here is the info that I have. William 1739, Anne 1741-1823, William 1743-1824, Mary 1746-1824, John 1748-1820 m. Olive Smith b. Nutley 1746, Henry 1751-1832 m. Sarah Barter l745-1819 Children William 1775 Frances 1778-1855 Elizabeth 1781 Hannah 1784. The following I am not sure of Joseph 1753-1830 Elizabeth 1755 James 1760-1765 George 1762 Sarah 1764.
I would be glad to hear from you about any info of ancestors further back particularly John Kimber c.1649 who married Anne in 1674, Margaret in 1680 and possibly Mary in 1681. If you can go back further than that I would be delighted as the last ancestor I can find is John Kimber 1618 married to Elizabeth Johnson. All I can find about them is that they may have come from Enderby, Leics but this is very problematic.
If you think I have any more info that would be of interest to you please let me know. Good Hunting. Vivienne

We are also researching this line back in 17th century. The Brown Candover reister only starts in 1611. What makes you think the Kimbers may have come from Leicestershire? The name is very much a Berkshire name, around Newbury but spreading out and spilling over into north Hants and Wilts.

No real concrete reason for thinking Leicestershire other than the only John Kimber 1616 who married Elizabeth Johnson (1616) that I can find came from Enderby Leicestershire in 1643. This is where my ancestry is floundering so cannot say for certain that this John Kimber is "mine".

Hi Alf,
The latest info I have from the IWFHS records Involving the House of Industry records is as follows - 'Isle of Wight IWRO Burial Cards Index shows this information. In recent months [2013] full records of the House of Industry (Workhouse) located in Newport, Isle of Wight, have come to light and released for public viewing. Joseph was 79 years old at the time of his death which makes his birth abt 1738/39. He was older than first thought.'
He was buried 13 May 1818 in the House of Industry Cemetary located somewhere in the grounds of St. Mary's Hospital in Newport, IW [although at the time of the death I think it was classified as being in Carisbrooke] and was 79 years old at his death. This would give his birth abt 1739 which would make his birth in 1753 wrong. I'm still looking for connections to take him back further into the dim and distant past. Thought I had found a connection to the Dorset Kimbers but not so. Have a look at what the IWFHS has on the House of Industry. Quite interesting. I have a new email address - alanrkimber@btinternet.com.
Regards to you all. Alan Kimber
