I am looking for any information about ABEL KIMBALL/KIMBELL who was living in Howell, Livingston, Michigan in the 1850 census reports with his wife Jane, Milly, Hannah, and Franklin. I come down through Frank.

Abel was born about 1812 in New York (again according to the census report). A couple of the neighbors are Brewers and someone told me, perhaps that was Jane's maiden name. No idea why this person thought so.

In the 1860 census report for Greenbush, Clinton, Michigan he is living with Jane, Hannah, Franklin, Ida, Eva, and George. Milly is no longer with them. I can't remember why just now, but I have her listed as his sister rather than his daughter.

In the 1870 census report for Greenbush, Clinton, Michigan he is living with Jane, Eva, Walter (George Walter), Aurora, and David. Hannah and Frank have apparently moved out.

I've no idea what the correct spelling of his name was. In the 1850 report it is ambiguously written. It might be Kimbell or Kimboll. In the 1860 and 1870 reports it is spelled Kimball. In the subsequent census reports regarding his son, Frank and all living family members now, it is spelled Kimbell. I've no idea whether Frank changed the spelling or if the census takers made assumptions before him.

I would really love to know what happened to Abel BEFORE the 1850 census report. Where in New York was he born? Who were his parents? He does not seem to be the famous Abel Kimball as they were living in different places. When and where were he and Jane married? Just what is her maiden name?

Boy, I wish I'd asked Grandma more about him.

Anyone have any info about him?

Thanks in advance,
Delores
