Roy, this is Jeff Kilgore. I live in Virginia Beach and I spoke to you some years ago about my part of the Kilgore family. You were kind enough to send me a copy of the book. I really enjoyed talking with you. I told several of my family about your book and now, several of them are asking for copies. Do you have any left firstly, and secondly, can I buy some or get some from you. I am willing to pay for several copies and/or shipping, if necessary. You can contact me directly at <a href="mailto://mancrib@yahoo.com">mancrib@yahoo.com</a> or (757) 510-6363 (cell). Thanks and hopefully, we can talk again real soon.

I can check and see how much more I might have but I think it is pretty limited. But I do know a couple of descendants and one in particular that is active with the Kilgour Group at Family Tree DNA of Houston that I mentioned previously. I highly recommend you get involved with this program. The technology and potential is growing fast. The number of markers used for genealogical testing purposes has increased twice in the two years I have been involved. Other than just a few exceptions we are all connected to what appears to be a common progenitor somewhere between 20-24 generations or maybe a little more. This would be about 1450 maybe a little earlier. Naturally the tree has many branches and the higher the testing level the better the differentiation. You will be able to determine fairly easily if you are part of this Thomas Kilgore branch and then work it from there, FTDNA recommends starting with the 37 marker test but in the end, depending upon your level of interest, you'll probably want the latest which is 111 markers. I will try to research what I have again to see if there is anything further this week. If you want to contact a Thomas Kilgore descendant I will need a way to get you the email address without going worldwide and after I get permission to provide it. If you join the Kilgore Group at FTDNA then the group members have their email addresses listed with the matches since there is varying degrees of communication going on regularly.''I now have CD's of the Origins narrative available, Roy E.
Roy, please don't apologize for the length of your answer! Likely someone will find this extremely helpful even if that person does not happen to be me. I am intrigued by the mention of Matthew's sons, William, John &amp; Samuel who eventually wound up in Ohio. These are early Kilgores in this state (like mine) and I am fairly sure I somehow connect to them based on the time period and the same state since that were not that many Kilgores here yet. Do you have their birthdates, years of residence in Ohio? Maybe I will go in that direction ...?

Re: Origin &amp; History of the Ancient Name Kilgour

Abraham is a very rare name in the Kilgore family and I have only one in my index for Joseph Killgore of Maine and he is not who you are looking for. Also, I can't find any Abraham Kilgore's in any of my miscellaneous Kilgore information and I actually have quite a bit but it is not indexed. But, I may have some clues for you and some suggestions for further research unless you have already used these. One of the old line Kilgore families is that of Thomas Kilgore and Rebecca Lassley of Maryland. They had sons Matthew, William, Thomas II, George, and James.<br><br>Matthew Kilgore c.1737-1821 headed for PA. Matthew and his wife Mary had these sons: Thomas III d. W.VA; George moved to Indiana; William went to Ohio; John &amp; Samuel d. near Chillicothe, O. <br><br>John previous was born at McCall's Ferry and m. Margaret.Their sons were Samuel Nelson; Matthew III; Robert N., Dr. William of Delta (I presume Delta, O.).<br><br>Samuel Nelson Kilgore b. 1801 M. Mary Neel. Their son John Neel Kilgore m. Eliza Jane Wiley (she could possibly be the Eliza Jane Wiley in my mothers family who was b. 1838 and whose other family members ended up in both the Ashland and Delta areas of Ohio where my mother was born). I have no children to this marriage and their is a second marriage. There is no further information that I have for the other Kilgore siblings of Samuel N. Kilgore and therein lie further possibilities for you. The Wiley's were very early migrants to Ohio and over the years lived in Columbiana, Ashland, Sandusky, and finally in Fulton County. If this Kilgore family in one of it's branches is yours, you may find some of them in those counties since in those early days families tended to stick together as the moved around. Like I said I am not sure that Eliza Jane Wiley is the same one as in our family but the date of birth of 1838 is not out of line and one Kilgore did end up in Delta.<br><br>Second, if you have any known Kilgore's in your family that are living, I would suggest they participate in the Kilgore Group at Family Tree DNA of Houston and take the 37 marker Y Chromosome test(<a href="http://www.familytreedna.com" target="_blank">www.familytreedna.com</a>). There are descendants of Thomas Kilgore of Maryland that have taken the test along with many other branches of the Kilgore family from all over the US, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Canada, and Australia...over 40 in all. There is a probability of common ancestry of all but four of these Kilgours of between 96-100% within 20-28 generations or less. If you tie into one of these families, all of them have more information on there own branches than I do. Maine Kilgore's are not known to have made Ohio a destination. It was a destination for PA, KY, &amp; MD Kilgore's for certain. Maybe others including new immigrants. <br><br>Third, I would check all known cemeteries in Clinton County for a possible burial site of your Abraham. Ther are enough other Kilgore's in what I have given you here that are very early that could give you the answer. <br><br>As for the books you are correct. I do have a very few on the Descendants of Joseph Killgore" of Scotland who settled in Maine. The "Origin of Kilgour" narrative is gone. I can make you a CD if interested. I hope this helps you. Excuse the length! Roy E. Killgore

Amy James is in the 1850 Springfield, Ross Co., Ohio Census. His father is listed as John Kilgore bc. 1805 Ohio and his mother Nancy bc. 1808 Ohio. That being the case I would almost bet his family was from the very large James Kilgore and Elizabeth Jack family of early Penn. Do you know any Kilgore descendants living today that would be willing to participate in Kilgore group at Family Tree DNA of Houston? The 37 marker y chromosome test will point to whether the early PA Kilgore is the right one as there are descendants of that family in the group. REK

James Holtom Kilgore is not in my index of descendants of Joseph Killgore 1690(1701)-1764 of York, Maine. Ohio was not a common migration point for Maine Killgore's or even for New England Kilgores. I recollect that most early Ohio Kilgore's were from PA,TN, KY, MD, VA or recent immigrants from Scotland or Ulster. I would suggest checking the 1850 and 1860 censuses for Ohio and maybe even KS. If you can find James as a child his parents should be listed along with their place of birth. Should they end up being Maine contact me right away since there are a few dead end lines still there. I would be surprised if you did not locate James in a census. Feel free to contact me anytime. REK

Several months have passed since I sent you "Origin &amp; History of the Ancient Name Kilgour", were there any surprises, anything new, comments,or any questions you might have? Have you considered doing y chromosome DNA testing? I would encourage any male Kilgore's to do so. So far it would appear we do have common roots beyond the US shores anywhere from 12-24 generations. One new participant from Northern Ireland definitely connects fairly closely with some of the A,erican lines. Others such as my own is more distant. Regards, Roy E. Killgore

Thanks for your interest and querie. I am happy to inform you that your father definitely is a descendant of Joseph Killgore 1690(1701)-1764 of Scotland. I take it you do not have volume I of the Joseph Killgore book or volume II. Volume I contains about a third of the information as the updated version volume II. But volume I has a 3 generation narrative written by Ben Kilgore in the beginning of the book and it also has a broad selection of phorographs and documents. Esthetically it is much nicer than volume II. Volume however has far more information with well over 20,000 descendants, spouses and spouses parents. There is a 32 page blank page section in the rear when you can continue your own family story, add photographs, or do whatever you want to personalize your copy. I will be very happy to send you a copy of both volumes plus a copy of "Origin &amp; History of the Ancient Name Kilgour". This narrative applies to all Kilgore's worldwide and brings together information that helps everyone understand and learn about their very ancient name. For me, the spin off has been to become involved with Y Chromosome DNA testing with the result I have learned that all the major branches of the Kilgore family in the US are distantly related meaning overseas. Currently we have a Kilgore from Northern Ireland and one from Scotland that are doing the testing. We are in hopes that they will both have common ancestry within 24 generations. It is that time period that Kilgour began to be used as a surname. I will need a mailing address and it will be possible to mail them before the end of the weeks. There will be no cost to you. They are about all gone so you're in luck! Roy E. Killgore

Your book will be on its way today Richard. I surmise you are not familiar with your earlier ancestry. Pennsylvania has a very early Kilgore family that has spawned an enormous number of descendants. I recently learned through the experience of Y chromosome dna testing that even my branch connects to several others here in the US. It is as simple as a swabbed inside your check. If you are intersted in narrow the possibilities check in with familytreedna.com. They have a Kilgore project. There are others also. Thanks for your interest and I sure hope you enjoy the book. I think I am down to 13 now. Roy E. Killgore

It leaves Scotland in the early 1700's and pretty much catchs up to us today through our own family histories and genealogies.

Kilgour is obscure, ancient, scattered in the scraps of history and discovered today after six years of amateur effort by studying the history of the Celtic people, Scotland, the church, evangelization of its' people, the monarchy, the MacDuff earls of Fife, the two prominent families of Seton and Lindsay, genealogy and family history, philolgy, and literature. Using imagination as a catalyst, the "scraps of history' can be transformed into a coherent narrative just like when pieces of a puzzle come together to reveal a picture. If you are a Kilgour descendant and would like a copy simply provide a shipping address and you'll be sent one free as long as the supply is available.<br><br>Roy E.
This book was researched for six years as part of an effort to update and re-publish Descendants of Joseph Kilgore 1690(1701)-1764 of Scotland. Both are available. "Origins" is available free to any interested Kilgore descendant as long as the supply lasts. Currently there are 65. "Descendants" is limited to Joseph Killgore's descendants and there are only 22 copies currently available. If you do not know whether you descend from Joseph Killgore, here is a quick test. If you have any Kilgore ancestors in Maine the probability is almost 100 percent. If you connect to New England the liklihood is about 80 percent before 1850 and diminishing from there. If you just don't know, send me your earliest names and I'll check my index, There are over 20,000 descendants, their spouses, and their spouses parents now included in our family genealogy. Migrants are known to have found in the 1800's frequently in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Kansas primarily. Secondly, California, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Washington. Advise if interested.
Please look in your index for Abraham Kilgour born abt 1818 in Buford, Clermont County Ohio, died 1894, Clinton County, Ohio. He states on every census his father was born in Ohio. I already checked with Clinton County who have an entry in a ledger for his death but no cemetery records or obit anywhere so that route did not work. He spelled his surname in various ways: Kilgour, Kilgore, etc. He also changed his first name a bit: Absolem, Abram, etc. Looking at Abraham's birthyear alone makes me think his father had to be some of the first Kilgours in Ohio, possibly born before 1790. I have a lot on his family but I cannot find his parents. You are probably out of books by now but your database sounds like it might yield a good clue. Any help you could give would be appreciated.

Hi Becky,<br>I just stumbled upon your posting of years ago while I was searching for David C. Kilgore!!!! I am working on the Samson family tree and didn't have much on David, husband of Louisa Jane Samson. So we may be in the same boat. But, I can link you with the public Samson Family Tree where you can find quite a bit of info including photos. The tree was started by a person who bought a Samson family album on eBay and then formed the tree on Ancestry. What a saint! I am now helping her by filling in my part of the Samson line. I come via Henry Franklin Samson, Martha Mary Samson and my mother Martha Latta Hart. This is where it gets interesting. Your grandmother's brother Mel died near Jackson, MI, when he drowned while visiting the Lattas. Then, my mother nearly married William K. Day, who I understand is still alive. (So is my mother.) Is all this of interest to you?<br><br>David Hart

If possible, could you send me a copy of the book? My cousin, Jeff Kilgore (in Virginia Beach) advised me that you contacted him about our family history. My address is: 221 Cleveland St., Kittanning, PA 16201.

I am very much interested to find out if I'm a descendant of Joseph Kilgore as well and if so, would love a copy of the book as well. My g-g-great grandfather was James Holtom Kilgore, born 1839 in Ohio, d. 1911 in Kansas. <br>Thank you in advance!<br>Amy Graham
