KILLGORE MARKS 98th ANNIVERSARY AT SUNDAY PARTY

September 14 marked the 98th birthday anniversary of one of Forest Grove's senior citizens, J. F. KILLGORE. To celebrate the event a party was held at the home of Mrs. Iva RITCHEY, his daughter with whom he has been living since last October.

Guests for the occasion were Mrs. R. W. RITCHEY and Glenn RITCHEY, Mrs. H. L. FORD and Harold FORD, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. TOMLINSON, Mr. and Mrs. John RICHMOND and Mr. and Mrs. James R. SHICK. Shick is the great grandson of the honored guest.

Mr. Killgore brought his family from Missouri to North Plains in 1875, traveling as far as Ft. Scott, Kansas by wagon. Leaving the wagon and mules in care of his father-in-law, he loaded his family on the train for San Francisco. At the California port they transferred to a boat for Portland, where they were met by a brother-in-law from Mountaindale.

The Killgores moved to Umtilla (sic Umatilla) county in 1877 and lived in the wheat country until 1908, when they retired and moved to Washington county. Mrs. Killgore died in 1930.

Mr. Killgore and his friends are looking forward to 1949 when he can join with Pacific University in a centennial celebration.
