Kilgannon from Devon, or??

I'm resending my old request in the hope that there's more info on the web now.. Also, I have since found that my grandfather John Kilgannon had a brother Patrick William Kilgannon born abt 1876 in Ireland. There's a possibility that they had a brother Richard, born in Singapore abt 1871. Louisa Jane Kilgannon married Albert Kemble. Annie's full name was Mary Ann Kilgannon and she married a Mr Dash (possibly) and I understand that her son died without issue. Thanks for reading this - Elaine Kilgannon Beckham
........................
My father Cyril Thomas John Kilgannon was born on the island of Jersey while his father John Kilgannon was serving in the 1st btn of the Devon Regiment during World War One. John was killed in the war in France. He had two sisters Annie who married Mr Dash in Exeter and Louisa (named after her mother) who married a German. John Kilgannon may have had a brother, or not. We don't know. He married Agnes Gillard of Broadclyst, Devon. We believe John Kilgannon was born in Preston, Devon, which is part of Paignton. We also believe his grandfather was a Patrick Kilgannon who died in County Mayo, but this is all word of mouth. Also word of mouth is that our Kilgannon family came from County Sligo. Any information on my family of Kilgannons? then contact me at my email addy. Thanks.

Just came in to check out what is happening and saw your message to Eve. I found that original message of hers a few years back and just like you tried just in case or. She very kindly sent me snapshots etc. Seems we are all chasing the same people here!!!! I have come across some interesting things since we were last in touch. I did make the corrections, but never sent. Keep in contact. Now lets hope you get this.

Eve,
Thanks for the prompt reply, and yes, I did get two, but I've done the same thing, most likely several times.
I probably should have asked Kathleen first since, as you suspected, I do know her. We are related - her mom and my dad were cousins. It's great to be on the web and be discovering things about my family. Kathleen has been at it for a few years now and my niece, Thelma Hartman (you may have seen that name on the message board)from Calgary, has just got started as well.
Thanks again, Francine

Francine, I just replied to your message but I think my reply got lost in the ether when the internet shut down. If this appears to be a second reply you'll know why.

I was in communication with Kathleen Lawson of Vernon, BC and sent her everything I had on Kay Kilgannon (a few things culled from my aunt's papers). You probably know Kathleen Lawson; if not, get back to me for her address and e-mail.

Eve

Eve,
Don't know if you still have that photo of Kay Kilgannon or not. I'm pretty new to the web and just saw your posting from October, 2004. Kay, or Kathy as I new her best, was my aunt, Dad's sister, and she did indeed die in Ontario in 1967. She was a big part of my childhood as she married late in life and had no kids, so she spent a lot of time with my sisters and me when we were young. I have many photos of here when she was young but not so many of here as a young woman. I would be interested in this one.

I have James Kilgannon b abt 1812 married to Bridget Kelly b 1810 with 3 children living in Carbondale Pa in 1880. He was the brother of Cormick Kilgannon from Co Sligo who came to Scotland abt 1840. I would love more info on this branch in US if you can make the connection.

One of Cormick's daughters, Mary, married Patrick Sheridan. They had 3 children in Scotland and went out to US about 1881/2 to that area because her uncle was there. He had a grocery store. The Sheridans had 3 more children in US.

There are also many Kilgannons in West Canada descended from James and Kate Kilgannon and from his brother William and his wife Nell. They were the grandsons of my Cormick Kilgannon.

Like others, I'm sure we're distantly related, but I don't know how. My G-Grandmother was Mary Ellen Kilgannon of Farranmacfarrell, Dromore West. Her parents were Pat Kilgannon (son of Daniel Kilgannon of Glen Easky) and Bridget Gilvarry. Mary Ellen's brother was Daniel Kilgannon, but he died relatively young.

Mary Ellen emigrated to New York City as a teenager, shortly after her youngest sibling (a half-sister), Sarah Kilgannon, was born in 1887. --Kevin Alcott

My wife had Kilgannons from Dromore West. Patrick Gilgannon married Catherine Neary and left for somewhere in England. They had two daughters there and were in Ohio by 188o. Kilgannons, Nearys and O'Dowds were the family names I am familiar with in Easkey and Drowmore West. Some of the family were around Templeboy. We maintain contacts with Sonny and Judy Kingannon in Dromore West. If you have any information concerning where Kilgannons might have settledd in England, please contact me. Thank youj

I don't know if we are in any way connected but I thought I'd reply, just in case. My grandfather John Kilgannon died in WW2. We know he had two sisters, he could have had more but we dont know. His sisters were Annie and Louisa. Their parents were James Kilgannon and Louisa Jane Jones. James' father was Patrick (what else for an Irishman?). Did your uncle Dan in Devon have any other relations who lived in Devon? "My" Kilgannons live in the Exeter area. Regards, Elaine Kilgannon Beckham

Sorry to be so long replying but have been busy and not reading the noticeboard. I have Cormick Kilgannon maried to Mary Cuffe at Templeboy.co Sligo in 1834. They had 4 children -so far!! Anne, my g grandmother, b c1838, John b 1839, Kames b c1847 and Maryb c1850 but she was born in Scotland. The others were born in Ireland. The familes usually kept the same names for their offsping so John is a possibility but another generation down I have not been able to find Cormick's parents or anything more about them. I do know he was farming in Kileenduff in 1833 but have found nothing more. I suspect the family moved away from the area about the time of the famine. I have been to Split Rock Farm and the land is pretty miserable around the area. In 1845 it was probably worse. There are still some Kilgannons in Ireland but I haven't found any of my family. If your family came from Devon it looks as though they all moved away. Doreen

Regarding Cormick, unfortunately I have no information. I am reply to your query simply because I never come across Kilgannons. Thanks.
