Pam if you could find the names of Vincent's parents (maybe on a death certificate), I might be able to help you trace him. I am accumulating a lot of information on Kijaks.

Thanks Tom, I would like anything you might have. Kijak's are not my family, but I was researching for a friend (a real Kijak) I am also going to teach him to research on the internet, so maybe soon he'll be on the forum himself Thanks again, Pam

recently was working on family tree. very difficult to trace anything on KIJAK. my husband is a kijak. i believe his grandfathers name was victor. there were 3 siblings as i know it: leonard, bernard, and a sister (forgot the name). i would love to have more info, if you have it.

Contact me: tgrafst@aol.com and I will give you what I can. I have a lot of information on Kijaks in Poland, several in the Chicago area and a few others. Am waiting on another microfilm with records of another Kijak village in Poland.

After much confusion (tracing the wrong Joseph Kijak), I finally found my greatgrandfather in Borzecin, Austria/Poland (Gallacia). It turns out he did have a brother Paul, born June 30, 1864. Any possibility of a match with your Paul?
|
Hard to tell if there is a connection, as the family seems to have moved around quite a bit. Unfortunately, the only information that I have regarding Paul is that his wife's first name could be Katherine. Do you have any more info re your Paul. e-mail me at nlisowiec@hotmail.com if you have anything more. Thanks Natalie

Re: Kijaks from Szczurowa, Poland
Years ago, I replied to one of these Kijak posts in regard to Victor Kijak. At that time, I didn't have a lot of info. Just found his WWI Draft Reg. card and see that he was born in Szczurowa, Poland, Austria. It notes that he was a Private in the Austrian Infantry. He was born in 1888. Full name: Victor Vincent (have also seen the 2 names reversed), Kijak. His wife's name was Magdalena. Haven't had a lot of luck finding his parents and would love to know more if possible. Thanks!

Re: Kijaks from Szczurowa, Poland
Your post is so interesting!!!
My maiden name is KIJAK. I grew up in Evergreen Park, IL. My father was Thomas Kijak-deceased (born in Pennsylvannia). He had two brothers, Peter-deceased (Lived in Lemont, IL; born in Poland) and Steven-deceased (Lived in Chicago, IL; born in Pennsylvannia). There were six sisters (Stella-deceased, Agnes-deceased, Helen-deceased, Martha-deceased, Josephine-deceased, and Wally--nickname-still living). Two twins died at birth; sex unknown.
My grandparents were John Kijak and Pelagia Kijak. I was told they came from northern Poland near the Russian border. In the US, they lived in Donora, Pennsylvannia (coal industry). When mines closed, they packed up and moved to Lublin, Wisconsin to farm (grain and dairy). Most of the children moved to Chicago except for Stella Kijak Rojewski (moved to California and later to Arizona) and Josephine Kijak Pink and "Wally" Kijak Popowski (both continued farming in Lublin). Agnes Kijak Moran moved to Antioch, IL; Chicago, IL; & Higley, AZ. Helen Kijak never married and lived in Chicago, IL; & Higley, AZ. Martha Kijak Lata lived in Chicago, IL.
There was a Kijak family that lived near me growing up in Evergreen Park, IL. We often got their phone calls, but they claimed we were not related.
Would like to learn more. Please write. Thanks!
