Lydia:
I just discovered your message. I have been tracing the Kiggins family in Independence, Buchanon Co. also.
William and Mary Jane are my great grandparents. I never knew them since they died before my birth. My mother has given me some information. I know from what a very helpful person in Independence
told me that according to the 1925 Iowa state Cencus that John Kiggins 52 years of age was born in Ohio to f Wm. Kiggins and m BRYANS (no first name),
William was born in Ohio and his wife in Delaware,
My grandmother was Etta Libby Kiggins.I know of two brothers named John and Lewis. She also had three sisters, named Mary who married Ed Lashbrook, they lived in Waterloo, IA,
Another sister was named Anna who married Lou Collins, I believe they lived in Independence, IA. The third sister was named Myrtle who married Henry Johns, she lived in St. Joseph Missouri
My mother and grandmother told me that they came from Ohio by covered wagon and stopped in Missouri before coming to Iowa. My grandmother lived in Oskaloosa, IA, Mahaska County. She married Lewis Fleener, my grandfather.

I am uncertain as to the spelling of GGrandmother Mary Jane's maiden name. Do you know who either of their parents were? Any help you could give me would be very much appreciated. I can remember going to Great Uncle John Kiggins house in INdependence when I was a small girl. He was ill from a stroke and not well.

Both of my Great Grandparents are buried in Riverside cemetary, in
arshalltown, IA, Marshall co. Anna is also buried there, we did find their stones.

Are we related?

George believes John Kiggins lived in a house on the corner in Independence Iowa. They have since then demolished it. Henry Kiggins then owned the house after the parents passed away. I am so excited to find some relatives.

How are you related to William and Mary Jane? My grandmother Etta Libby was a Kiggins before marrying my grandfather Lewis Fleener. Grandma lived and died in Oskaloosa, IA where she is buried at White cemetary next to William Penn college on Hwy. 63 coming into town from the north. I loved her dearly. I hope my granddaughter loves me as much. My mother was the only surviving daughter. There were also five boys named Sam, now deceased, his family lives in Albia, IA.
Another boy was named John, also now deceased. Most of his family lives in or around Oskaloosa, IA, some live in California and Florida. Another son named Clarence lives in Oskaloosa. They don't have any children. The youngest boy Gilbert lives by Oskaloosa, never married and no children. GRandma's oldest boy was named Ervin, who also died childless.
I never knew my great grandparents. We did go find their graves at Riverside Cemetary in Marshalltown.

Do you know anything about our ancestors at all. Was George a grandson of John?

If you want to contact me, send an E-Mail to bevmast@kdsi.net.

I would be interested in any information you might have. My mother is still alive and does remember a few things but not much.

Lydia: Been a long time finding any of you. I was married to Harold H. Beck, Sr., grandson to John. Would like to see what you have on the families. I am just getting started again and without Harold to ask, I must rely on others in the family.
