I am trying to locate any kiffs that came from Lockport, Niagara County, NY. My g grandfather, Howard had 3 sisters, Mabel E, Florence Lavania, and Mary Emma, as well as 2 brothers, William James and John Daniel. The family that might have known anything about them has long since passed on without talking much about them. I am eager to continue the lineage, but have not gotten past their parents, Daniel and Mary Emma Harmon. Howard married Clara King of Royalton, NY and had 2 children-Robert and Ruth. Mabel was married to Henry Schiersing, at least 2 children-Donald and Dorothy and LeRoy Walker - no children. John is believed to have married a woman named Nellie no info on her, unknown about children. Florence married Byron Cronk possibly of Iowa and had 8 children-Lawrence, Florence, William, Bertha, Howard, Ebert, Leo and an Infant. Mary Emma married Charles Martin, no info on him or any children. William James married Delia Haley also no info, and had 3 children, William James, Jr, Roland and Mary Ellen.

I am also trying to discover the parentage of a Kiff family who were settled in Lewiston, Niagara County, N.Y. Henry Kiff, b. 1799 in NY married ca 1817, Anna ???, b. 1803 in Canada West. He died in 1857 in Lewiston, and she died in 1878 in Lewiston as well. They had nine children the first born in NY in 1818 then 4 born between 1829 and 1835 born in Ontario, the next 4 all born in Niagara County, NY. There were probably children born between 1818 and 1826, but I have no knowledge of them. I have been trying to find the parentage of Henry and two of his siblings in Ontario since 1984 and have had no luck. I have traced most of Henry's children through a couple of generations, but still no luck in discovering the parentage. Because of the Niagara connection perhaps there is a relationship to my family line. If you agree perhaps you would like to share some information on the Kiff line. Tony Clemente

I did come across that line of Kiffs from Lewiston. I figured they were probably related because of the close proximity to Lockport, where most of my family lived and still does. I just haven't figured out how to make the connection. I got as far as my gg grandfather Daniel b. in 1864, who married Mary Harmon also b. in 1864. They had 6 children: Howard, Mabel, John, Florence, Mary Emma and William James. After Daniel, i have no information. If this helps, email me directly at kmfouts@rochester.rr.com and we can compare further.

I have been trying to trace my Kiff Family relatives and hit a wall with my Great Grandfather - John W Kiff.
This is an extract of the Mary Ann Campbell Kiff obituary (1919) printed in the LaPorte Argus.
Mrs. Mary Campbell Kiff, widow of the late John W. Kiff, died at her home, 403 State Street yesterday after several months illness. Mrs. Kiff was born in Niagara, Ontario September 3, 1844. She was a niece of the late A. T. Stewart of New York City. She leaves to mourn her loss several children and a host of friends. The children are Clarence S, Mrs. Gertrude Rudduck, Alfred D. Kiff, Herbert A. Kiff, Mrs. Illa Hoover, Mrs. Lottie Diesend, Harvey H. Kiff, Mrs. Grace M. Miller, and Mrs. Carrie D. Hilligas. The funeral will be held from the residence on State Street, Monday afternoon at 2:30, the Rev. Barwell Walker officiating. Burial will be at Pine Lake cemetery with Cutler Brothers in charge.
Clarence Seymour was my Grandfather and Census records in 1900 for La Porte, IN show he was born in NY in 1867.
I Hope this can lead to a connection for all of us.
Thanks Lynn William Kiff

My 2nd great grandmother on my mother's side was Angeline Jane Kiff who married Isaac Pennyman. I can't find birth or marriage or death information on either of them, She was born in about 1824 in Quebec, Ontario or NY,USA depending on info provided. He was born in NY,USA. They lived in Lewiston,Niagara, NY,USA in 1860 with their children, then she appears in Ontario-Ridgetown, Thorold areas with the children only. Ant information out there? I appreciate any help that I can get. Thank You.

My mother, Bonnie Schoff, told me years ago that the Kiff name is a shortened version of the original name. She can't remember what the original name was, however, so all of us seem to be in the same boat trying to discover John W Kiff's parents. Have you come across anything for Mary Ann Campbell's parents?
I was also curious to see if you have any information on Clarence Seymour Kiff's wife, Marion R. Stuck? We are diligently seeking information on this line as well, and would be happy to share anything we find with you.
Thank you in advance for any information you may have that we don't,

Pat --- I haven't found that Kiff was shortened but as you saw in the other posts there is little before your Great Great Grandfather. There are a number of tantalizingly close records for John Keif and John Keef in Indiana as a laborer with the railroad. I also found a record of a John W Kiff born about 1844 in Central New York state in a town near the Erie Canal. The listing had him as born of Irish immigrants. Maybe it's pride, I hate to think the reason the records are sparse is because of illiteracy. I started thinking there might be a path from Central New York state - marriage to Mary Campbell near Niagara, Clarence S born 1867 in New York, records of a John Kiff in Michigan in the 1870s. The family settling in LaPorte on the main line of the New York Central RR. I also found a record of a Mary Kiff as a hotel maid near Grand Rapids. Temporary work? I hope we have a chance to learn the stories for our family.
Speaking of stories - I have attached the LaPorte County birth record of my Father - Clarence W. and was surprised to find Marion was not my Grandmother / your Great Grandmother. I have attached two scans of the file. Clarence S. is showing as Clarence F. (In the old hand written census records I've seen here on Ancestry that mis-read is not a surprise.)
So anyone know anything about Laura Lenning Kiff born about 1866 in Germany? -or- is it possibly she was from Germany Township, Pennsylvania? When / Why did Clarence S. re-marry?

Still looking for help in regards to Angeline Jane Kiff born either in Quebec or New York State. I believe that her parentage would be Kiff/ Frieseman but still unable to find confirmation.
