Would like to see if you might be able to supply me with a bit of information- like does it sound as if this family's name was originally Kiedrowski. Don't know for sure the correct spellings of the name. In 1882 John Keiderowski (?) came to the U.S. from Germany. Family tradition has it that he was born in Poland, probably Warsaw. The name was Americanized to Keider as tradition states that others had a hard time spelling or pronouncing the name. John had married a Rose Hainz in Germany and had a son by the name of Paul in Germany in 1878-1879. After entering the U. S. he had a child by the name of John Joseph (1883). Another child, a daughter, I do not know when or where she was born was named Elizabeth.
I am not sure, but I believe that John's occupation may have been a glassblower. He died sometime between 1908 and 1910 probably in N.Y. Pennslyvania, or Ohio. I found him in the 1908 city directory of Olean, New York. However it was in this year that his son John Joseph married Bernice McGiveron in Olean. Supposedly John Joseph had been born in Pittsburgh Pennslyvania. His occupation was a glassblower and his family can be found in the 1910 Jefferson County, Brockwayville Pennsylvania Census. He died in 1917 at the age of 33 of tuberculosis in Olean, New York- at least that is what his death certificate reads. Family tradition says he died of Brown Lung - the glassblowers disease.
Recently it has come to light a note from the American Flint Glassblowers Association a letter to a Mrs. Joseph Keider dated March 21, 1908, from Toledo, Ohio remitting three dollars after the death of her son. I don't know who Mrs. Joseph Keider was- If possibly Her husband's name was Joseph John- the original John Keider who immigrated. If so then there was another son.
At any rate to my knowledge the areas of migration for the family was Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio. Not much is known of the family as we are John Joseph's heirs and were cut off from the family upon his death in 1917- at this time his four children ranged in ages from 7 or 8 to about 2. Paul had already moved to Michigan with Rose. Elizabeth had married a JOhn Derrick from Pittsburgh.
Do you have any knowledge of this family? Thanks for taking the time to read all of this.
I have a copy of John Keidowski's (Kiedowski) Naturalization papers that I will be glad to send if you think this may help.

Karol,
Have just returned from a trip trying to trace the Keiders. Found something interesting in Pittsburgh. From 1882 until 1906 the name changed about every other listing. 1882 Keider 1887 Kiedrowski, etc. In talking with an elderly aunt from Karns City, Penn. found that there was a brother to either John Keider or John Joseph Keider that settled in Ohio. Don't know whether the brother kept the name Keider or Kiedrowski. The name Kiedrowski was used by Paul in the Catholic Church until 1940 when he changed his name legally to Keider. Was wondering if your ancestor was originally from Ohio and if you know much about him?
Thanks--------------------Nita Toney Keider

Happy days to all! I am Karol's Cousin from Lorain OH. Not much has been told to us about our family tree or where we came from. We have been told that our Grandfather (Herman "Baba" Harold Kiedrowski) came from Wisconsin to Lorain in order to work in the numerous steel plants here. He married a woman named Dorthy Conyar and had 3 children: Bob(Karol's dad), Jeff and Tim (my father). This is all that I know of our family (not much) but I would be interested in knowing more. Also, if you are ever in Lorain or the surrounding area, be sure to stop by our famous Bakery (Kiedrowski's Bakery- 2261 Cooper Foster Pk Road, Amherst Oh - closed Mondays)
