I am looking for any information on Mingo Kiddoo who would have lived in Cuthbert, Georgia from 1840-1860?, especially family documentation including photos. He was likely involved with the Fifth Geogia Infantry (Company F) during the American Civil War.

There are a few references to the Mingo Meeting House (Chapter I p. 21); Mingo the family slave (Chapter XI, p. 298); Mingo Presbyterian Church (Chapter XII, p. 302); and Mingo Cemetery (Chapter XII, p. 306) in the Kiddoo family book available online at http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cgi-bin/docviewer.exe?CISOROOT=....

Mingo and Hettie (Miller) Kiddoo marriage on 23 Jan 1876 was record in Macon County, GA; volume 35; certificate #17820. [Source: Dodd, Jordan, Liahona Research, comp. Georgia Marriages, 1851-1900. [database online] Provo, UT: Ancestry.com, 2000. See Extended Description for original data sources listed by county (per Ancestry.com)].

Mingo Kiddoo appears in the 1870 census (age 45 born S.C.) along with Ellen (age 28; born SC; well digger; colored; male), Malinda (age 26; born GA) and Effie (age 1; born GA). [Source: 1870 U.S. Census, Randolph County, Georgia population schedule, Cuthbert City, page 21(stamped page 247), enumeration date 21 June 1870, lines 6-9, National Archives Micropublication M593-171.]

Mingo Kiddoo, appears by himself in the 1900 census (age 80; black; male; widowed; born July 1819 in PA) [Sourece: 1900 U.S. Census Chattahooche County, Georgia population schedule, Coleman Township, District 15, page 176 B, enumeration date 14 June 1900, line 92; National Archives Micropublication T623-186.]

South Caroline death index list a "Mingo Keto" age 98; death date 2 Dec 1925; non-white; Florence County, S.C. [Source: Ancestry.com. South Carolina Death Index, 1915-1949 [database online]. Provo, Utah: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2005. Original data: South Carolina. South Carolina Death Index, 1915-1949. Columbia, S.C.: South Carolina Division of Vital Records, Office of Public Health Statistics and Information Services SC Department of Health and Environmental Control.]

Information was obtained by searching Ancestry.com with the exception of "A History of the Kiddoo Family in the United States 1780 - 1981" compiled by Bette Butcher Topp. I've seen many variations of the surname Kiddoo (e.g., Kilduo, Kildoo, Kido, Kidoo, Kiddo, Caldoe, Caldoo, Kadoo, Kiddoe, Kildoe, Kildue, Kildew, Caldow, Caddow, and Caddoo). I do not have any other information on Mingo Kiddoo. Good luck with your research.

Thank you very much for your help. The book was new to me. I am aware of the census data regarding Mingo Kiddoo, but know of little else. The women listed with him on the 1870 census have proved untracable. Any new leads or other information would be greatly appreciated. Given the family welfare, I think it unlikely that he ever left Georgia (though I am not sure of his death location) and likely died between the 1900-1910 census (he would have been in his 90s).

According to our information, Mingo, was a family slave/companion of William David Kiddoo, s/o David Kiddoo 1802-1865. Wm. 1836-1928 was veteran of Confederate Army in Civil War. The tradition is that when he was wounded in the war, Mingo, carried him 40 miles to a railroad and took him home.
Wm.David was the youngest judge that served on the Patula Circuit of Cuthbert, GA, where his father was the first judge. Wm.David m. Martha Rebecca Thornton 25 Jun 1867, and their dau. Mary Lee Kiddoo, also served as an attorney, and as soon as law permitted, a judge Cuthbert, Randolph Co., GA.
