Looking for info on Ephraim, who appears on the tax rolls of Crum Elbow, Dutchess Co., NY, 1753-57.
Trying to determine if he is related to Mary Kidder, b. 1745, CT.

In the Kidder Book it has:

Ephraim Kidder (James, James, James), born at Mansfield, CT 28 Feb 1716/7. He married at Coventry, Tolland Co. CT 26 Dec 1738 to Freedom Barnard of that place, born there 8 Mar 1715/16, daughter of Benoni And Freedom Barnard.

Ephraim Kidder resided in Coventry until 1750, when he and his family disappear from the records of that town. A deed recorded 19 Apr 1753 describes him as of Nine Partners, Dutchess Co., NY, where his son Ephraim Jr. is said to have been born, and perhaps the latter's two younger brothers, John and Stephen. Family records indicate that certain of his sons lived at New Marlboro, Berkshire Co., Mass.

then the book goes on to list the children....this Ephraim does have a sister Mary born 7 Mar 1708/9 Mansfield, Tolland Co., CT and died 27 Jul 1726

but no children named Mary

Not sure if this is the Ephraim you are looking for but this is my direct line. I am from this Ephraim's son Stephen.

I also checked on Ephraims siblings to see if they had any daughters named Mary born at that time and they didnt.

Only female born around that time in this line is:
Nathaniel the brother of the Ephraim I referred to in my other post had a daughter:

Elizabeth b. 14 Apr 1745 Mansfield, Coventry Co., CT d. 1831 at Mansfield aged 87. Her will dated 30 Mar 1827, proved 7 Dec 1831, bequeaths to Adolphus and Elizabeth (Kidder) Smead, the use and occupancy for life of land in Mansfield, originally belonging to her grandfather, James Kidder.

dont know if any helps...

Hi Sandy,

Are you the same Sandy I e-mailed with 6-7 yrs. ago?

My memory isn't as good as it used to be, so this might be just a guess, or I'm remembering the wrong name.

I'd also like to mention that it is that James KIDDER family, the first KIDDER to move to CT, is the one where there is very little information on them. Or, I believe few people have proven the KIDDER's in early NY State are descended from that James. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Dennis and Sandy,

You sure have done a lot of research on that early CT family. Thank you for posting your summaries.

I'd just like to make one comment. Either the "KIDDER book" or the "New Ipswich, NH, book" mentioned that the "KIDDER coat of arms" was hung in the home of Reuben KIDDER. He was a long-time resident of New Ipswich and an important surveyor and farmer. His "apple orchard" and "apple cider," etc. was known throughout New England. There were also important "family papers" in Reuben's home, and no one knows where they went.

And, from memory, either the same or different, important family papers were held at a KIDDER home in Bristol, NH. And, no one knows where they went, either. My ancestor in Temple, NH, was descended from the James, John, Thomas line. I just checked on-line, and the family in Bristol, NH, was from the James, John, Benjamin line.
