My grandfather was Vernon Kidder, son of William, son of Foster Benjamin (b. 10/11/1825 in Townline, NY), son of Benjamin (b. 8/1/1799 in Windham VT), son of Jedidiah (b. about 1770 in VT). Jedidiah was married to Chloe. Can anyone take this back farther than Jedidiah? Thank you.

59 SAMUEL KIDDER (Richard, Ephraim, James), born at Dudley, Mass., 8 Feb. 1734; died there in 1776 from smallpox contracted in the army. He married at Dudley, 30 Mar. 1758, SARAH CORBIN, born there 14 Sept. 1740; died there 16 Feb. 1831 in her 91st year, daughter of Elisha and "Sally" (Healy) CORBIN. She married secondly, in 1785, JONATHAN BACON of Dudley, who died 25 June 1815 in his 87th year.
Samuel KIDDER acquired a small farm in Dudley on which he lived and reared his family of seven children. On the Lexington Alarm he joined a group of fellow townsmen in taking up arms in defense of their liberties. He took part in the Siege of Boston in 1775 during which service he contracted smallpox from which he died on his return to Dudley in 1776.
A strange tale has been handed down in his family of his having killed and bitten a rattlesnake in the belief that by so doing his teeth would be preserved, a superstition then current in the country. He is said to have had wonderfully preserved teeth until his death.

Hello. Several families from Billerica, MA, headed out to the Worcester, MA, area. Oxford is 2 towns south of Worcester, and it is one town north of the CT border. From another ancestor, I know about the Killingly, CT, area where several families headed there, even from Providence, RI, area. The "quiet corner" of CT is the very northeast corner of the state, and it was a "travel route" to get to the CT shore, etc.

FYI:

In 1727 Richard Kidder owned a houselot of forty acres in the Southern part of the town of Oxford, and in 1729 he bought from the heirs of Joseph Dudley one hundred and fifty acres in that portion of the same town which later became Dudley. It was situated in the Upham neighborhood near what later became the road from Oxford to Dudley, and here he settled and continued to live in after life. He was active in town affairs and served as selectman. His will, dated March 11, 1773, made no reference to wife or sons.

I don't remember when Worcester was first settled.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

FYI:

This is the first Kidder to move to CT:

9 JAMES Kidder (James, James), born at Billerica, Mass., 27 June 1679; died at Mansfield, Conn., 18 May 1729. He married at Concord, Mass., 8 Nov. 1703, MARY ABBOTT of that town, born at Andover, Mass., 23 July 1686, daughter of Capt. Thomas and Sarah (Steward) ABBOTT.
James Kidder settled in Mansfield, Conn. about 1703, the year of its incorporation as a town, and thus became one of its earliest inhabitants. He purchased twentyfive or thirty acres of land there in 1709. His will, dated 22 Mar. 1729, in which he describes himself as "Husband man," "sick and weak in body," provides for the appointment, as sole executor, of his son James to whom he devises "all my lands in Mansfield" and other property. To his wife Mary, he bequeaths certain specified items, and "all my movable estate and one third rooms, & c."
