Kidd Y-DNA update

Classification: Query
As we near the end of 2012, we have more than 80 Kidd male participants in our Kidd Y-DNA study. Over the past five years, we have discovered new branches of the family and linked other branches to each other through Y-DNA testing.

If you are a Kidd male of direct descent through a Kidd parternal line, now is a great time to join our study group. Through Dec 31, 2012, our host at www.familytreedna.com has promotional offers on Y-DNA tests, both upgrades and for new participants.

Please visit their website or email me directly at skkidd@bellsouth.net for details. Please be sure to join through the Kidd study by clicking on the Join Request tab at www.familytreedna.com/public/Kidd in order to be registered in our family group. I am available to help you place an order if you need assistance.

We continue to make progress in testing additional branches of the Kidd Y-DNA tree. If you would like to know if your branch has been tested, please visit the website and click on Y-Results, or email me at skkidd@bellsouth.net.

If you are a Kidd male who has not yet tested your own DNA, please consider joining us. And if you have older Kidd relatives, please consider sponsoring a test for one of them for the Y-DNA study. (I have sponsored my brother, and this is a great way that our female Kidds can support Y-DNA testing).

And DNA testing makes a wonderful Christmas gift!

Hi Sandra,

My name is James Kidd. I have traced my ancestry back to Thomas Martin Kidd, with undocumented sources back to England. I have done the Ancestry DNA and wanted to know if those results could be used in your Kidd study.

I will send you an email to the address that you provided.

I also had a cousin, Sandy Kidd, daughter of Ray Kidd.

Your Thomas Martin Kidd is a part of the Bloom, Richland Co, Wisconsin, family of Kidds. I am glad to report that your line is represented in our Kidd Y-DNA project at Family Tree DNA.

Your ancestor James Kidd married Sarah Bristow, the daughter of Bartholomew Bristow, in 1817 in Middlesex Co VA. A few years later (ca 1823), they left for Ohio, using for their travel the proceeds from the sale of land that had belonged to his late father Henry Kidd.

James Kidd was the son of Henry Kidd and Catherine Seward of Middlesex Co VA. He is identified as a son of Henry Kidd in Middlesex Co VA estate and deed records, and as a son of Catherine Kidd when he married in 1817, his father Henry having died in 1803 when he was a young boy.

Henry Kidd was the son of Benjamin Kidd Jr. and his wife Jane, and was the grandson of Benjamin Kidd and Judith Chowning of Middlesex Co VA. The elder Benjamin Kidd was likely the son of William Kidd, the younger son of Thomas Kidd of Middlesex Co VA. Y-DNA evidence proves that Benjamin's descendants are direct descendants of Thomas Kidd, who was in the Virginia colony by 1646.

Thomas Kidd is the earliest documented ancestor of the Kidd family in Virginia. At this time, any suggestions about the English origins of Thomas Kidd are speculative, not proven.
